Cockrell Champion Families...Happy Thursday!

We are almost into April! Time flies when we're having fun :)

Don't forget your ID when visiting campus. Also- take a look below for our STAAR days where we cannot have visitors on campus in April. Thank you!

A few housekeeping items are listed below, as well as upcoming dates:

• As a reminder, all important dates and events for Cockrell for the year are in a document linked below for your planning purposes.
  
• Dress Code: Please refer to the Dress and Grooming guidelines in the PISD Student Handbook. Remember, hats are appropriate for students on Fridays. Additional "hat days" will be communicated throughout the year as well!
• We would love for you to follow us on Facebook if you have not already. You can find our page at @PISDCockrellElem. Look for the correct Facebook page that has our logo as the main profile picture. This will provide a glimpse into Cockrell for you as we move through the year!

• Tuesday, April 7th: Kinder Launch Your Journey, 2 sessions: 4:00-5:00 pm, 5:30-6:30 pm
• Friday, April 10th: Cockrell Honor Choir at Rough Riders to perform at 7th Inning Stretch 7:05 pm game time
• Saturday, April 11th: PISD Hope Walk at Children's Health Stadium 9am-11am
• April 14: STAAR Assessment 3rd-5th Grade Reading (No Visitors on campus this day)
• April 21: STAAR Assessment: 5th Grade Science (No Visitors on campus this day)
• April 28: STAAR Assessment: 3rd-5th Math (No Visitors on campus this day)
• Thursday, April 23rd: Kindergarten Musical Performance 6:00 pm
• Monday, May 18th: Celebrations of Learning (schedule & details coming in a couple weeks)
• Tuesday, May 19th: 5th Grade EOY Party at The Cove
• Wednesday, May 20th: Last Day of School, Detailed schedule for the day coming to you in a few weeks, Champion Assembly 8:00-8:40, EOY Parties, 5th Grade Walk 1:30 pm

Last Day to Turn In a Form: March 27th

If you would like to provide input on your child's homeroom placement for consideration for next school year, please read below!

Consideration forms can be picked up from our lovely front office team beginning today February 19th through Friday, March 27th. Forms will not be provided electronically. The form is completely optional, and the deadline for forms to be turned in, without exception, is March 27th.

The purpose of this form is to provide you as the parent the opportunity to communicate to the school administrators regarding your child’s unique talents, learning styles, strengths, and interests. We know each child is individually unique and our goal is to provide learning environments that best meet the needs of each child, in order for the highest level of growth to occur. Appropriate placement of each student will be decided upon by campus administrators.

Directions: This form is completely optional. It is not required. The last day for a Consideration Form to be turned in to the front office is Friday, March 27th, 2026. Forms submitted after March 27 will not be considered. Specific teacher names may not be placed on the form. If a specific teacher name is written, the form will not be considered. Email consideration (including emailed forms) will not be considered. Picking up a form in the front office and dropping the form back to the front office between the timeline of February 19th - March 27th, without providing teacher names, is the way to have your information considered. The purpose of this is it facilitates streamlined organization on our end, allowing for an efficient and effective process.

All of our educators and educator teams collaborate and work together to meet the needs of every child in a grade level, and in the school. Although students are assigned a "homeroom" teacher, each of our students will know and work with each teacher in some capacity as we work together to meet individual needs. We know not one person can do everything, but together we can. We trust each of our teachers to provide excellent instruction to our children.

Simply ask Elvia, Scozz, Teraya, or Kelli in the front office for a form when you are ready! Please drop the form back off into the office when you would like to turn it in no later than March 27th.

You can come to Cockrell any time of day to pick up a form when it is most convenient for you!

Remember, the window for form pick up and turn in is February 19th-March 27th.

Our Annual Executive Board Elections will take place in April. Below is all the information you will need. Ballots will be emailed to all current PTO members. If you plan to run for a position or would like to vote, you must be a PTO member no later than March 25, 2026.

It’s time to nominate candidates for the 2026–2027 Cockrell PTO Executive Board.

Nominations will be open March 24–30, and voting will take place April 7–12.

To run for a position or vote, you must be a current PTO member by March 25, 2026.

You may nominate yourself or someone else. All nominations remain confidential until accepted by the nominee.

If your child rides the bus regularly, or even occasionally, please ensure that his or her bus tag is connected to the backpack on a daily basis. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you would like to problem solve this together. Thank you!

2. If you are picking up your child early from school, please pick-up prior to 2:40 pm so our front office staff can focus on end of day safety, security, and dismissal procedures.
