GRIMSRUD ELEMENTARY
SEPTEMBER 2025
A Message From Your Principal
Dear Grimsrud Families,
It was wonderful to see so many parents and teachers at this week’s PTO meeting to learn what is happening around the school and plan some key events for kids and staff. I'm excited to report our school's enrollment has increased 20 students and we have continued to welcome new students and families each week since day 1.
We’ve continued a strong start to the school year and continue adjusting to the new bell times and settling into new routines positively. Last week we held our very first "Positive Behavior Assembly" where we recognize individuals as well as classes of students for showing that Grizzly Pride (Respectful, Responsible, Safe) throughout the school. This involves music, contests/games, a Mr. Grizz (mascot) appearance, and a lot of fun!
This week our Beginning of Year (BOY) testing is now underway, a time where your child takes multiple assessments spread out over the course of a couple weeks. This gives us valuable insight into each child’s academic strengths and needs so we can better support them from the very start. Please encourage your child to do their best, get plenty of rest, and come to school on time with what they need each day. Your consistency at home with routines makes a big difference here at school.
I hope you take just a few minutes to read the information within this newsletter, and if you have suggestions of topics or information, don't hesitate to help us improve what we do.
We’re looking forward to seeing you soon at one of our favorite family events in just a couple weeks—Fall Fest!
With warm regards,
~Dr. Upton
Open House Prize Winners!
What a great way to start the year. Thank you to all the families who came to drop off supplies, meet the teachers, and give students the chance to see their new classrooms!
Congratulations to our Fall Student of the Week
Mitchell was nominated by his teacher Mrs. Pasillas because he always shows up with a great attitude and gives his best every day. He’s kind to everyone, super helpful, and perseveres through challenging situations. He makes our classroom a better place every day!
Celebrating our Grimsrud Staff
We invite you to use the button below to write a quick celebration for one of our staff members you see doing something you know is good, appreciated, or you hope continues/spreads! Thank you for lifting our fine people up in recognition!
Career Cafe
Career café is back! Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade had the special opportunity to learn from a nurse about what it’s like to work in healthcare and learn about the kind of training they had to do to get to that point. They got to explore how nurses care for patients, try out a hands-on activity to see how an IV works using a pool noodle, and even check their own heart rate! It was an exciting and educational experience that gave students a glimpse into the important work nurses do every day. If you have a unique job, you feel the students would like to learn more about, reach out to Mrs. Westergren to schedule a time to be our speaker for career café! Check out some pictures of this week’s speaker.
A Note from our Grimsrud PTO
Thank you so much to everyone who attended our first PTO meeting. It was so great to see all the new faces and hear everyone's ideas! Also, new this year is a virtual option. The link will be shared on Facebook before the meeting.
If you weren't able to make the meeting, virtual or in person, here is what you missed:
During the meeting, we learned about some of the fun ways teachers are implementing for students to get to know each other better, as well as shared our opinions on bell times and open house. We also voted to fund a new medical grade thermometer for the school and voted in a new eat out nights coordinator (thank you Seth!). We are still looking for a new Box Tops Coordinator and Co-Secretary for our board. If this interests you, feel free to email us at grimsrudpto@gmail.com or come to the next meeting! We also discussed Fall Fest plans as well as new events and funding opportunities based on teacher feedback.
Speaking of funding, WOW, you are all doing a great job selling Worlds Finest Chocolate. We are half-way done and more than half through our chocolate. Just make sure you turn in money by September 19th to earn your COOPs!
Fall Fest is coming up September 30th so watch out for volunteer opportunities to help with running the games. If you have a game you think would be great, or know of a business that would like to set up a game or prize at Fall Fest, let us know! We'd love to add even more fun to our event.
We hope to see even more of you to hear your ideas and opinions at our next meeting, Tuesday, October 7th at 4pm.
Thank you!
