Tiger Talk
04/08/25

Dear Tiger Families,
We hope this message finds you well. Tomorrow, is our STAAR Reading Assessment for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Our teachers and students have worked incredibly hard in preparation for this day, and we are excited to see the amazing growth our students have had throughout this school year. The progress we have observed in every classroom has been truly inspiring.
As a reminder, tomorrow will be a closed campus, and we kindly ask that parents and guests refrain from visiting during lunchtime. This will help create a focused and quiet environment for all of our students as they take the assessment. We can have no visitors or volunteers on campus tomorrow.
To ensure your child is set up for success, please remember the following:
-
A good night’s sleep: It’s essential that students get plenty of rest to be alert and ready for the assessment.
-
A healthy breakfast: A nutritious breakfast helps students perform at their best. If your child needs breakfast, we offer a great breakfast at school from 7:20 AM to 7:40 AM.
Please make sure your child arrives on time so that he/she can have a positive start to the day. Class begins at 7:40 am.
We greatly appreciate your support in helping our students to feel prepared and confident. We are all looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off!
Thank you for your continued partnership, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal

Returning Student Verification
Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents/Guardians,
We are pleased to announce the opening of Returning Student Verification for the 2025-2026 school year. This process is required to be completed for all students who will be returning for the 2025-2026 school year. If your child will not be returning to Lake Travis ISD for the 2025-2026 school year, please contact your campus registrar and submit the appropriate withdrawal form.
To complete the Returning Student Verification process, the parent/guardian listed as the primary parent in Skyward should log into Skyward Family Access and click on the “Returning Student Verification 2025-2026” tile (refer to image below).
Please note, you will be required to verify and update information on your student, family, and residency. Current proof of residency documentation (fully executed lease agreement, signed closing documents, most recent property tax statement, mortgage statement, or property deed in parent's/guardian’s name), AND a current utility bill (water, electricity, or gas with parent's/guardian’s name) are a required portion of the online form.
While returning students are automatically enrolled for the coming school year, student information must be verified and/or updated annually. Therefore, the primary parent/guardian must complete the verification process for each child before August 1, 2025.
Once you have submitted the online form, the tile will no longer be available in Skyward Family Access under the student’s profile. You can view the online forms that have been submitted by navigating to 1. Main Menu > 2. Online Forms > 3. My Online Forms History (refer to image below).
The completion of this form assists your campus with planning for the 2025-2026 school year. We appreciate your participation!
Sincerely,
Marco Alvarado
Executive Director for Communications & Community Relations
It is that time of year again where we begin to work on our next school year schedule and class lists. The parent input form for the 25-26 school year is open! In making class assignments, our goal is to place each child in a class where he or she can be most successful.
A secondary goal is to also maintain a balance among classes in terms of gender, academic ability, disciplinary and social needs, learning styles, and individual needs of the students. All information shared is confidential and submitted electronically to West Cypress Hills Elementary administration.
We hope to make classroom assignments that will maximize the opportunity for your child’s success. If you have information you would like to have considered in your child’s placement, please complete and submit this form. Please limit your input to the way your child learns and any information we should consider.

On Monday, March 31, our school will be embarking on a special project: an all-school book club called One Community, One School, One Book. This week our Library is sending every Tiger family a copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle, and we invite each family to read this book together at home during the program.
Please make the time for your family to participate in this special activity.
Thank you, WCHE PTO, for generously purchasing the books for us! As shown below, the Tigers in Mrs. Roy's 4th Grade class are very grateful and excited to receive their new books!
Hello WCHE families! The transition from winter to spring is always a busy time on campus, and the months of February and March were very eventful on campus and throughout the district with the LTISD Learning Together Conference days and Spring Break at a district level, and Field Day and Career Day here at the campus level. Even with such a busy schedule, we were still able to meet for guidance during that time.
The Friday before Spring Break was not only fun because it was a half day here on campus, it was also our Career Day. We were fortunate to have many wonderful individuals come and speak with our students about their careers in areas like the arts, business, technology, multimedia, journalism, law, veterinary science, and many others! Our speakers shared with our students what their job entails, what their work environment is like, what subjects from school they regularly use in their job, how they were able to combine their interests and skills in their career. It was so much fun!
As a supplement to Career Day, all grades in March took part in a career exploration activity in guidance. The focus here was to help students understand that though they are young, it can still be fun to explore what different careers have to offer. The lesson helped students to think about their interests and skills, where they enjoy spending their time, and their goals. We then explored jobs that are found in various career fields, and identified some that we would like to learn more about in the future.
Career exploration guidance was preceded by guidance focused on developing our safety skills as identified in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Elementary Health. This includes differentiating between healthy and unhealthy relationships, identifying strategies for conflict resolution, understanding personal space and setting boundaries, and practicing refusal skills such as saying “no” to protect personal space and to avoid unsafe situations (i.e. - negative peer pressure or bullying.) We also discussed when and how to get help from a parent or another trusted adult when made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe by another person (we call this listening to our “Uh-oh” voice with our younger students).
Please check back in to see our April edition of Counselor’s Corner, where guidance will focus on strategies we can use any time we are nervous for a big moment (like presenting a report in front of the class, taking a test, a performance like a solo musical or dance routine, or a sporting event.)
Warmest regards,
Dustin Boren, Counselor

LTISD, Crime Stoppers to host
Parent Information Night on Cyberbullying & Online Safety
Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents/Guardians,
We invite you to join us for an important Parent Information Night on cyberbullying and online safety at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, April 8 at the LTISD Educational Development Center.
Representatives from the Crime Stoppers program will lead an informative discussion, sharing real-world experiences, prevention strategies, and practical tools to help families navigate the digital world with confidence.
Why This Matters
With the average age of U.S. children receiving a smartphone now 10.3 years old, and 1 in 2 kids having a social media account by age 12, online safety is more important than ever. While the internet is a powerful tool, it also comes with risks. As technology evolves, so do the tactics used to exploit it. Parents play a critical role in helping children stay safe online.
What You’ll Learn
- What cyberbullying looks like and its impact
- How to recognize warning signs in children
- Steps parents can take to prevent and respond to cyberbullying
- Resources for reporting and supporting victims
The session will conclude with a Q&A session, so bring your questions! We strongly encourage all parents/guardians to attend. Together, we can create a safer online environment for our children.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Garrigan
Director of Counseling & Health Services

Mr. Wernicke of Bee Cave Middle School is hosting a summer running camp!
7/28 - 7/30 from 5 to 8 pm
Registration for Camp Save-a-Watt is now open! PEC’s free online summer camp offers various educational videos, lessons, crafts, and weekly activities to keep the learning going all summer. The eight-week camp encourages kindergarten through fifth-grade students to save energy, learn about electricity, and how to be safe around it.
Campers can also join us for in-person events like Solar Car Derby and Meet a Lineworker. This year, we will be adding two Egg Drop events where campers can put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building an egg-protecting contraption using recycled materials at home. Campers will test the effectiveness of their design as they watch it drop from a PEC bucket truck.
All campers who register before May 16 will receive a free camp t-shirt! Registration closes May 30. Visit mypec.com/camp to learn more and register today.
