GPS District Digest (v7, i04)
Stories, news, and updates from Greenwich Public Schools
Fantastic Four
Here in the GPS District Digest newsroom, we love to get feedback from our loyal readers. Each email we receive is special and it means the world to us when someone takes time from their busy schedule to let us know they are out there and reading.
Recently, we heard from Braulio S. He has been a fan from Day 1 and we can always count on him for a smile and a pat on the back.
But could you imagine our surprise when we received an email from the immortal Dr. Ernie Fleishman? If you don't know the good doctor, then you better ask. He is a man of great leadership, influence, and wisdom. When he writes that he read a great article, you better believe in its greatness.
It is humbling to say the least, and with those words, we will move forward for all of you, sharing all good things GPS in Connecticut's favorite school newsletter.
Enjoy Issue No. 4 and thank you for your support.

Knowing Me, Knowing You
We do not think a regular feature in the GPS District Digest has received more feedback than, "Get To Know Your Educator." It has proven to be insightful, fun, and entertaining.
We wish we could interview all of the hundreds of amazing teachers that work at Greenwich Public Schools, but who has that kind of time? For now, we will get what we get and not be upset.
And who could be upset getting to know Cos Cob School's Victoria Bee? She is our latest featured educator. So, sit back and enjoy, "Get To Know Your Educator."
It's the best I can do.
Spooky But Not Scary
The GHS Orchestra Spooktacular Concert is back for another year of fun-filled spooky sounds of the season. Head to Greenwich High School’s Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:30 PM. The program will feature all of the GHS orchestras, along with the eighth graders from Central, Eastern, and Western Middle Schools.
GHS concerts are free and open to the public. Do not forget to wear your costume.
What's Up, Doc?
New Lebanon School recently kicked off, "Harvest of the Season," a seasonal farm to school initiative. The celebration coincides with CT-Grown-for-CT-Kids-Week, a statewide initiative happening throughout all of Connecticut's public schools.
The "Harvest of the Season" celebration included all things carrots: students juiced, peeled, made and tasted carrot-top pesto, and showcased their amazing school garden.
This exciting community building event demonstrated how New Lebanon is setting students up to learn and thrive with access to local foods, student driven menus, food education and hands-on gardening.
Talk Talk
Greenwich High School's "We The People" program, with logistical assistance from the Greenwich League of Women Voters, recently hosted a spirited debate with Board of Education candidates in the Performing Arts Center. Student-written, curated, and moderated questions covered a range of topics, including school budgeting, cell phone access, school start times, cafeteria food prices, and attendance issues for mixed-status students.
"I couldn't be more proud of our students," GHS Teacher and Program Coach Mr. Hull said. "They worked for many hours to create a working question schedule with robust, well-researched questions fielded from their peers. A huge thank you goes to the Board candidates for their excellent display of civic virtue and their willingness to serve and model constructive, engaging dialogue."

What Ever Kind of Mind You Are In
The amazing, hard-working, and friendly workers at our school dining rooms were all smiles recently, as Greenwich Public Schools hosted, "Farm to School Week."
Did they serve fresh carrots? Oh dear! Oh dear!
Did they serve cauliflower? Heads were rolling!
Kale? Chopped and torn.
You Better Not Cry
Just Can't Get Enough
The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven recently announced eight winners of the 2025 Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity. One of those eight graduated from Greenwich High School in 2025. You get three guesses on which Cardinal was honored, but the first two do not count.
"These students developed thoughtful solutions to real-world problems in their communities," the announcement read. "Ashley Malkin’s passion about researching and developing cutting edge technology to combat neurological disorders led her to become aware of how much the blood-brain barrier presents major challenges in administering drug therapies for neurological disorders."
Again, congratulations to Ms. Malkin, a current freshman at Stanford University.
Scholarships were awarded to the candidates who demonstrated significant innovation and whose projects have the greatest potential impact. The winners were recognized for projects involving the arts, science, technology and social action. Scholarship awards range from $4,000 to $20,000 per year, and are renewable for up to four years.

Back To The Place Where I Belong
In issue No. 3 of the Digest, we explored, for the first time, current GPS employees that were students in our buildings, back in the day. In a recent informal poll, we learned that more than 10% of our current workers are products of Greenwich Public Schools.
We heard from so many of you with your best guesses identifying those in their Greenwich High School yearbook photos. Can you do it again? Here are a handful more. Have fun.
So I'm going home.
