MESSAGE FROM THE K8 PROGRAMS DIRECTOR

What an awesome month of September welcoming back our Explorers! We introduced new faces to the CLA team, adjusted and shifted practices, started a new Middle School schedule based on concept readiness, launched STEAM Courses for Middle School scholars, engaged in our first rainy day of the year, hosted Career Chats and guest speakers, and held our first monthly assembly. This list only highlights a handful of accomplishments our scholars and staff completed last month, and it is sure to grow as we move throughout the school year.

Thank you families for ensuring your scholar is on time and ready to learn each day. Attendance is a huge key to success and we are thankful for the opportunity to serve your scholar. As we shift into October, our fall benchmarking is completed and instructional practices will continue to increase in rigor.

When it comes to academic progress, our goal is partner with families to support each scholar at the highest levels. If your scholar is in need of assistance, please reach out to teachers through ClassTag! If for some reason ClassTag is not working for you, please reach out to the Office for assistance.

Happy Fall Everyone and Welcome to October!

Respectfully,

- Elizabeth

As the class identifies these critters on campus, they snap photo and add it to their BINGO card. Ask your scholar what they've found so far!

Every year, CLA participates, along with millions of people around the world, in the World's Largest Earthquake Drill--The Great ShakeOut. Preparedness is key! Whether at home, at school, in the office, or driving on the road, we want to ensure our scholars know what to do in case of an emergency.

Coffee & Energy Drinks On Campus

Please refrain from sending your scholar to school with coffee stand beverages and energy drinks. Many of these containers get spilled and create lasting damage to carpeted areas.

Scholars entering campus will be asked asked to finish them before entering the classroom space in order to keep our school looking (and smelling) its absolute best!

Thank you for your support in this area!

Early PM Pick Up/Messages During the School Day

The protocol for picking up students early is as follows:
  • Emergency Notifications- Please contact the office no later than 1:30pm to provide adequate time for the office to contact the classroom
  • Please let your student know the after school plans or how they are being picked up early before they come to school to limit interruptions in the classroom throughout the day

With instruction being important, we are asking that families refrain from pulling scholars out of class early (prior to their release time) so they may interact with content as much as possible. Thank you so much for partnering with us to ensure our Explorers receive the most out of their learning time!!!

zoom_out_map

College & Career Gear Days

CLA will be focusing on providing experiences for our scholars by exposing them to different careers. We will have community speakers visit throughout the year and share the path they used to get to their career, whether it was through attending college/university, trade school, or through a different path our scholars will get to engage and ask questions!

With that, on the first Thursday of each month, our Explorers and staff will wear College/University gear (logo t-shirts, lanyards, hats, etc) or wear/dress in the Career they hope to be or would like to highlight. Example: if a scholar is hoping to be a firefighter in the future and they have an outfit, they are encouraged to wear it on this day!

Our hope is that we begin encouraging our Explorers think about their future!
