Hello R-PEL Families!

Enjoy the long weekend and have a great MLK Day!

We are about halfway through the school year and this is a great time to pause, reflect and adjust our goals. Students came back with new energy and we are ready to help them keep growing. We will continue to focus on kindness(Respect), hard work(Pride), and doing our best every day(Integrity). Thank you for supporting your child at home. We are excited for all the learning ahead in the new year.

If you have any questions or need help, please reach out to us.

Capturing Kids' Hearts

Did you know that R-PEL is a two year in a row National Showcase School for CKH?

What is Capturing Kids' Hearts? CKH is a program for teachers that focuses on building strong, positive relationships between students and staff to foster a safe and supportive school environment.

You may have heard your kids talking about their Social Contract in their classroom, if not, ask them what that is!

January's Theme is Respect

What is Respect?

Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.

Child Car Seat & Seat Belt Rules (Ages 0–13) - UPDATED APRIL 2, 2025

Michigan Safety Guidelines — Simple Guide for Families

🚗 Where Should Kids Sit?

  • Children under 13 years old should ride in the back seat whenever possible.

  • If all back seats are taken by other kids, then the child may ride in the front seat.

  • Rear-facing seats may go in the front only if the airbag is turned off.

👶 Infant to 2 Years

Rear-Facing Car Seat

  • Must ride rear-facing until age 2
OR until they reach the seat’s height/weight limit.

🧒 Ages 2 to 5

Forward-Facing Car Seat

  • After outgrowing rear-facing, use a forward-facing seat until age 5
OR until they reach that seat’s height/weight limit.

🧒➡️👦 Ages 5 to 8

Booster Seat

  • Use a booster with a lap-shoulder belt until age 8
OR until the child is 4 ft. 9 in. tall.

👦➡️🧑 Ages 8 to 13

Regular Seat Belt

  • Child uses a properly fitting seat belt.

  • Should stay in the back seat when possible.

💡 Safety Tip

Keep your child in each type of seat as long as they fit, based on the manufacturer’s height/weight rules.

⚠️ Reminder

Not following these rules may result in a civil infraction (a ticket).
