Board Meetings
Board Meetings are the first Wednesday of the Month.
The location for meetings for this year will be at Lynda's house or via Zoom.
If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member.
Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.
Tidbits from the President
I’m back…. barely. My time in England was great. Lots of good times and funny stories. Now back to reality.
The show was great. We have included the NTQF profit numbers (with details to follow), but they were much more than last year. This is mainly due to our booth. I can’t say thank you enough to Grace & Pat for running it all and ALL you members who donated great things for the booth. Pat yourself on the back!
Looking forward to September. We have great programs coming up and the march to the end of the year will soon be a dash!!! It will be time to select new officers for next year and find some new committee chairs. Please consider the options before the committee comes to you (or you go to them).
And remember to check out the ‘Quilting Events are Everywhere’ section. Parker county and Johnson county quilt guilds are having their big events this month.
See ya at the meeting, Lynda
2026 Officers…
It is time to begin the process of finding and electing officers for 2026. I will start by apologizing because I should have done this in August ( or asked Cecilia to do it ). We need a nominating committee. This includes the past president/parliamentarian and 3 members from the guild at large. Please consider volunteering for this committee. We need a slate of officers for the October meeting for an election in November.
Program This Month
September 16 Meeting
Danea Boquet, designer and creator of Fold&Sew quilting.
Fold&Sew is a family-owned business evolving the tradition of quilting in a fun, new, innovative way. With a patent-pending on its unique design, Fold&Sew quilts are unlike any other quilts you have encountered and are designed to be fast and simple to assemble. This makes Fold&Sew quilts ideal for novice quilters wanting to begin with a straightforward project, as well as veteran quilters wanting to create a handmade quilt in record time.
September 17 Workshop
There will be a workshop to teach her unique and fun quilt method -- foldandsew.com – Fold&Sew
Wednesday, September 17, possibly 9 AM at the church.

NTQF 2025
We had a great show. We sold more tickets and the booth did GREAT. The rough profit was over $4000 (increase of over $2000 from last year)! I’ll have final numbers after we check on a few minor costs.
NTQF 2026
Profits will be calculated differently for the next show. Instead of % based on membership numbers, it will be based on participation (board, committee chairs, NTQF volunteer hours, EXPO volunteer hours, and number of quilts entered). So we need to ALL help in next year’s show to have money for our guild. More details to come.
And NTQF has already put in an order for Tshirts. They will be $20 each in pre-sales, $22 at the show.
Raffle Quilt
We have a raffle quilt every 2 years.
We need someone to manage the raffle quilt for 2026. The planning and creation needs to be done THIS year.
Sunshine and Shadows
Send Sunshine and Shadows directly to Anne Houpt: annhoupt@aol.com or via text message
Hospitality Volunteers needed!
We need hospitality volunteers for upcoming meetings. There will be a sign-up sheet on the hospitality table. Beginning next month, the list will also be published in the newsletter for the benefit of those like myself who sign up, then forget.
Marilyn is great, but we shouldn’t expect her to do everything.
Hospitality
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day.
Fall is in the air; however, we still have some Summer days. On those days, it is best to stay inside and work on projects.
To those that helped set up and then helped with the cleanup, I appreciate your help. Thank you to everyone that brought snacks to the August meeting. Everyone enjoyed them.
September Birthdays

Frayed Knots
meets 2nd Tuesday evening
Tight Knots Bee September Meeting
Our September meeting was hosted by Cherie Bigham. Lots of individual conversations were going on, but no world problems were solved. Then we discussed our bee retreat in November in Stephenville. Pat Wagers is going to show us how to make rag rug placemats. She gave us a list of items to bring if we were sewing the placemats and gave us a quick walk-through of the steps to sew them.
Show and Tell was next. Peggie Herring led with a tale of 12 quilt tops she found when she was cleaning her sewing room. Her goal is to quilt one each month. Go Peggie.
Chris Tomich showed a quilt she is making for her grandson. On it were deer, bears, and various forest animals. Chris, also making fleece blankets for students in FWISD. Grace Stroud showed a Carol Doak by the month quilt. She also had an oops table runner she made out squares she trimmed too small for her quilt. Next was a nursery guilt Grace made for JPS. Margo is working on a quilt for her youngest grandson and wanted our opinions on the colors.
If you know our group, you know we have opinions. Cheri Bingham had one JPS quilt to show and heart shaped pillows for breast cancer patients. Cheri is also making cubes for her co-workers. She is going to put pots of Christmas cactus in them. Cheri served peach cobbler and blackberry cobbler. Ice cream accompanied the cobbler when it was served. Yummy!!! Then Pat Wagers won all our fat quarters in a game of LRC.
Tight Knots August
Barbara Anderson hosted the August meeting. We talked about our lack of “green thumbs”.
Yes, we have all murdered plants. Then we moved on to high heels and bad feet. (I had one pair of heels in high school and found they were useless on the gravel playground at my church when I was
watching the little kids.) Now, to our business meeting. We discussed the annual quilt show and the great sales. Apparently, sales were way up this year.
This month, we brought socks for Safe Place. We brought socks in children’s sizes. This was followed by the show and tell part of our meeting. Judi Janes led off with a
quilt for her sister-in-law. Barbara Anderson Made a quilt out of sock monkey material for a dog shelter. Cheri presented 12 quilts for the NICU at JPS. When does this woman sleep? Chris Tomich had pillows for JPS, 5 baby quilts, and two Afghans. Once again, when do these people sleep? Carol Hughes was very happy to announce that she won the raffle quilt at the Modern Quilt show. Pat Wagers shared a mini quilt. Barbara Anderson served a strawberry bundt cake and lots of snacks. We had 4 birthdays this month, and they received fabrics from all the members of our bee. Then Grace proceeded to take all our fat quarters in a heated LRC game.
Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

Quilts Of Valor (QOV)
We awarded our 130th quilt on the 17th of August, thanks to all our volunteers (YOU). You make it possible to honor so many veterans with beautiful quilts.
Recent activities include the submission of three quilts and one quilt top, distribution of kits for home completion, and a successful sew Day at the American Legion, where eight participants contributed log cabin blocks for upcoming quilts.
Cecilia Buckholz
Bev Ramsey Fund
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Harris Downtown for their NICU unit.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
Quilters, please take some time this fall to make a baby quilt for the NICU or make one of the other items that they need at JPS. They truly appreciate our donations.
Judi Janes and Carolyn Hughes
NICU Co-Chairpersons
-------
We encourage each member to read the information below, just to refresh your memory about all the items you can make for JPS. It’s not just NICU quilts. They love to get baby quilts of all sizes. The NICU quilts can’t contain flannel, but other quilts can. A new item added to the list is a wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).
Our donations are really appreciated by JPS, the moms, and any other patients who receive them.
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts -NO Flannel. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has also requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long
9 inches – circumference for small
11 inches – circumference for large
CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com
Adult Items:
These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS cancer center and geriatric patients.
Bags to hang on walkers
Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)
Wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).
Ostomy bag covers
Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery
New request — bags that can be attached to walkers to hold keys, water bottles and other small items.

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG or JPEG pictures. We can attach PDF, Word, and XL documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
I would like to share pictures of show-and-tell items, but we must have someone willing to take pictures and email them to the guild email address.
If you are unable to bring your project to the meeting for Show and Share, send a picture to the guild address - with subject - Newsletter show n share. We can include a brief description
