Principal's Message

Greetings Sycamore Family!

We are off and running this school year! We have had a busy first few weeks with our students. This year, we are fully implementing our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students have been earning "Longhorn Tickets" for demonstrating positive behavior and following school expectations. These tickets will be used to "purchase" prizes once a month.

Additionally, safety is always a top priority at Sycamore. I am excited to share our county has agreed to put a fence around our lower playground area. This will separate our parking lot and playground. We are also one of the first schools to receive a vestibule in our front lobby. This will be an additional security measure as you enter our front doors. Guests to Sycamore will enter the main doors and then show id before gaining entrance to the front lobby. Our staff is excited about these new safety features.

This past week, we welcomed a great group of parents to our Title 1 Annual Parent Information meeting. Valuable information about our upcoming school year and resources the school has to offer were shared. We look forward to even more parents and guardians joining us at our next parent meeting.

Also, we are finalizing our Local School Plan of Improvement (LSPI) which connects the local school work to our overall county goals in our GCPS Blueprint for the Future. Our school will be working on goals relating to the areas of Equity, Equality, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Be on the look out for our final version of the Sycamore LSPI in early September. Our goal is to reach each and every child to meet their individual needs everyday at Sycamore.

Finally, we appreciate the patience of our Sycamore families with transportation. There is a current bus driver shortage which can delay buses arriving on time in the afternoon. Rest assured our Transportation Department is working diligently to ensure all students arrive home on time.

Thank you for your continued support of our amazing school. I am excited about the amazing things happening this school year at Sycamore. We are #TeamSES!

Fondly,

Dr. Scarborough

COVID-19 Surveillance Testing

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is continuing its efforts to keep everyone in our schools and students and staff safe by making COVID-19 Surveillance Testing available to students and staff. In January of 2022, the district began piloting g in the Norcross Cluster. GCPS has since then expanded the program, offering this testing opportunity to students and staff in the Archer, Berkmar, Collins Hill, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lanier, Norcross, and South Gwinnett clusters.

The GCPS COVID surveillance testing program is currently only available to students and staff members in the Archer, Berkmar, Collins Hill, Dacula, Duluth, Grayson, Lanier, Norcross, and South Gwinnett clusters. If you are a current student or employee in one of these clusters and are interested in participating in this pilot, click the link below.

If you signed up for the program last year, you would not need to complete the sign-up again.

Surveillance testing involves regular testing for the presence of COVID-19 in individuals in the school setting who do not have symptoms. Surveillance testing will allow GCPS to test, receive test results (within 24 hours), and notify individuals of a clinically significant reading. By participating, students and staff members can help to minimize the spread of the virus within our schools, which benefits us all.

Although participation in surveillance testing is not required for students or staff members, it is strongly encouraged. Participation will contribute to the success of this mitigation strategy and our schools’ ability to limit the spread of COVID and keep students learning in person.

Learn more about COVID testing by reviewing our frequently asked questions, located on the right side of this web page.
