To measure the impact that the LiiNK Project has on student academic, emotional, and physical well-being student information is gathered. A paper permission form will be coming home in your child's backpack with information about the LiiNK Project. Please read the information, complete the form for each of your children, and return to your child's homeroom teacher via your child's folder by Friday, September 2nd. Illness Policy

Parents, please review the district's illness policy. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Nurse Baker. She does an amazing job keeping our students healthy and parents informed.

When your child is ill, please contact the school to let us know he or she will not be attending

that day. State rules require schools to exclude students with certain illnesses from school for certain periods of time. For example, if a child has a fever over 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until fever-free for 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medications. Students with diarrheal illnesses must stay home until they are diarrhea-free without use of diarrhea-suppressing medications for 24 hours.

A parent should contact the school nurse if a student has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

A full list of conditions for which the school must exclude children can be obtained from the

school nurse.

If a student becomes ill during the school day and the school nurse determines that the child

should go home, the nurse will contact the parent.

The district is required to report certain contagious (communicable) diseases or illnesses to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or our local/regional health authority. The school nurse can provide information from DSHS on these notifiable conditions.

The school nurse is available to answer any questions for parents who are concerned about

whether or not their child should stay home.

Attendance - What to do if your child is absent

Please email your child's teacher to let them know why he/she is absent and request school work for the days absent. Your child's teacher will forward the email to our registrar so the absence can be noted.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please call, 817-847-2940, or email our nurse, Melissa Baker, at mbaker01@ems-isd.net for instructions about quarantine and return to school protocol.

Please call the school or send a parent or doctor note every time your child is absent. Without notification, the absence will not be excused. After 10 unexcused absences, truancy will be filed.

Visitation Guidelines

Visitors are welcome at Copper Creek Elementary. To maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for our students, please adhere to the following guidelines during school visitations. Non-compliance may result in the immediate termination of the visit. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. All visitors are required to check-in at the front office. A valid driver's license or state issued identification card will be required. All visitors are required to have their visitor’s pass visible at all times. Upon completion of your visit, please return to the front office to check out.

LUNCH VISITATION

Visitors may eat in the cafeteria at the designated visitors' table or on the patio. For safety purposes, visitors may not share food with other students. To prevent hurt feelings with other students, please do not invite your child’s friends to join you on the patio. In an effort to minimize classroom distractions, please return to the front office immediately following lunch.

CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS

Parents are welcome to observe their child's classroom. If you wish to observe your child's classroom, please arrange a date and time with your child's teacher. If you wish to speak to your child's teacher, please arrange a conference during non-instructional times. To minimize classroom distractions, please make alternative childcare arrangements for younger siblings.

VOLUNTEERING

Parents are welcome to volunteer at Copper Creek Elementary. All volunteers must complete the EMS ISD Volunteer Application located on the district website under the “Parents” tab. To minimize distractions, please make alternative child care arrangements for younger siblings when volunteering.

Volunteering / Overview

Our students benefit from the many volunteer hours that our parents and community members invest in our schools. For the safety of our students, we require all volunteers to complete a volunteer application and we run a name-based, state-wide criminal history check on all applicants. The background check must be completed and approved before volunteering.

Safety & Security Protocols

EMS ISD has adopted safety and security protocols from the I Love You Guys Foundation.

1. Standard Response Protocol for K-12 Schools - This protocol is based on five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, and Hold.

2. Standard Reunification Method for K-12 Schools - This protocol outlines a reunification method for a school crisis or emergency.

There are pictures below of each protocol.

All Copper Creek Elementary staff members were trained in both protocols during our in-service week. Students will be trained in the Standard Response Protocol throughout the school year.

If you would like more information about the I Love You Guys Foundation, please visit http://iloveuguys.org/index.html#home.
