Week in Review

This upcoming week, we're turning back the clock and celebrating the history of Parkview Middle School! As we celebrate our final year as Parkview Middle School, we invite all students and staff to join us for a special Legacy Year Throwback Contest on Friday, October 30th! Dig out your old Parkview spirit wear, rock your favorite retro fashions, or show off your school pride with a throwback look from any decade!

Contest Categories:

  • Best Vintage Parkview Gear

  • Best Decade Throwback

  • Most Parkview Spirit

  • Most Creative Throwback

  • Special Recognition: The Legacy Award

Contest Guidelines:
All outfits must follow regular school dress code guidelines. No masks or face paint are permitted. You do not need vintage Parkview clothing to participate—any school-appropriate retro-inspired outfit is welcome!

Let's fill the halls with memories, celebrate the decades, and show what it means to be part of the Parkview legacy! (see the infographic below for more details)

Once a Parkview Red Devil, Always a Parkview Red Devil!

Based on recent ILEARN Summative data and DIBELS assessment results, students saw updates to their class placements to better support their academic growth. There were a few changes to core classes as well, due to trying to even out class schedules.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our instructional and scheduling team:

  • Math Coach / AIC: Chelsea Schowe - cschowe@gccschools.com

  • 6th Grade and 7 Gray Counselor: Tara Spiehs— tspiehs@gccschools.com

  • 8th Grade and 7 Red Counselor: Michele Page - mpage@gccschools.com

As a reminder, ILEARN Checkpoint Testing will continue this week, with the ELA test taking place on October 29th. These diagnostic assessments are given 3 times throughout the year to give our teachers real-time insight into what concepts students have mastered and where they might need a little extra support. They are a great tool to help us tailor instruction to every student's needs! On these testing days, our schedule is different. Students will test in the morning, and then go to shortened classes throughout the day. We will go over that schedule with students at the end of this week and beginning of next week.

Each week we'll include a Parent Playbook Tip in our newsletter that offers insight into the middle school pedagogy with practical action steps for home.

Week 12: Digital Hygiene and Distraction

💡The Insight:The Insight: Switching between tabs (social media, games, homework) creates "attentional residue," making study time twice as long.

📍At-Home Action: Enforce a "single-tasking" rule during homework: phones in another room or out of arm's reach.

Student Handbook

A copy of the Parkview Student Handbook can be found here on our website. Here are a few reminders:
  • Daily attendance of all students who are enrolled in the Greater Clark County Schools is required in accordance with state law and corporation policy. Students are expected to attend school regularly in order to derive maximum benefits from the instructional program. The responsibility for regular school attendance by a student rests with the student and his/her parent or legal guardian. If a student will be absent, please call 812-288-4844 ext. 21141 or email mjones@gccschools.com. Please note, a student may have 10 absences excused with parent notification. After that, a doctor's note or other documentation will be required.

  • If your student will be taking medication during the school day, the medication form must be completed with school nurse. All medication must be brought to the (front/health) office and taken there. All medication, which includes over-the-counter, cough drops, and prescription medications, must have a written physician’s order.

  • Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school, but must keep them turned off and put away. Parkview Middle is an “Away for the Day” school. You can find more information on this at https://www.awayfortheday.org/. Students needing to call home during the school day must do so in the main office during lunch or passing period (with teacher permission), or in the classroom with his/her teacher’s permission. Cell phones are never to be used to take photos or videos of other students at school. Students failing to abide by this policy will result in school consequences.

Holiday Assistance

As the holiday season approaches, Parkview Middle School is pleased to offer support to our students and their families through our Thanksgiving Meal Assistance & Angel Tree Assistance Programs.

We understand that financial circumstances can change, and the holidays can sometimes bring additional stress or unexpected challenges. Our goal is to help ease some of that burden and ensure that every Parkview family has the opportunity to experience the warmth, comfort, and joy of the holiday season.

Thanksgiving Meal Assistance

We are offering Thanksgiving meal assistance to families who could use a little extra support this year. Our hope is to help families enjoy a special holiday meal together without the added financial worry.

Angel Tree Assistance Program

Our Angel Tree program helps bring holiday cheer to students by providing new clothing, outerwear, and wish-list gifts for children whose families may need additional assistance. If you have more than one child attending Parkview Middle School, please complete a separate Angel Tree application for each child. If you have children attending other Greater Clark County Schools, please don't hesitate to apply! We will do our best to coordinate with our fellow schools to help spread holiday cheer throughout your family.

How to Apply

If your family would benefit from either or both of these programs, we encourage you to complete the application using the link below.

Application Deadline: Wednesday, October 28, 2026

All requests for assistance will be handled with care, compassion, and confidentiality. Please know that there is no judgment in asking for a little extra help. These programs exist because we believe in taking care of one another and supporting our Parkview community.

If you have any questions or need assistance completing an application, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are grateful to be part of such a caring school community and look forward to helping make this holiday season a little brighter for our Parkview families.

Bus Transportation Request

Go to GCCS | Resources For Parents | Greater Clark County Schools, click on transportation

Once on the Transportation page, read the fast facts, and then click on Transportation Request Form to request transportation. ***New this year*** - the transportation form needs to be completed ONLY if your student is new to the district or will have a new stop.

FAST FACTS:

  • Students opting to ride the bus can only have ONE pick-up location and ONE drop-off location. They are not allowed to rotate between different stops, unless on a one week on/off plan due to living arrangements.

  • NO TEMPORARY BUS PASSES ARE ALLOWED. If a need arises for a child to get dropped off/picked up at any place other than their assigned stop, the parent/guardian needs to make those arrangements.

  • Please have your child at the assigned bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled time in the mornings. If a bus is at the stop at the correct time (10 min. window) and the child misses the bus, we will not instruct the bus driver to go back and pick up your child.

  • New students or students with an address change: Make sure you have filled out the Transportation Request form as soon as possible so they will be assigned a bus. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf9rYRnsYwA0yJ4-0MI0laKma2z41c92qcA1fabnM7nUdnZYw/viewform

Steps to view transportation:

  1. Make sure your child is registered in Powerschool at the school level. No students are allowed to ride unless the info in PS is correct.

  2. Check (https://myridek12.tylerapp.com/login) or download the My Ride K-12 app (Android & IOS) to see if your child is assigned to a bus.

There are several advantages to downloading the My Ride K-12 app to access bus route info. Not only will it provide you with the bus information but you can live track the school bus your child is assigned to within the app. The transportation department utilizes the app to communicate with parents regarding bus changes/time changes. (When you are setting up the app for the first time, it will ask for the school your child attends. Please type in Greater Clark County Schools.)
