SPRING FORWARD
From the Desk of Principal Henderson
Dear Riley Parents, Guardians, and Scholars:
Happy Friday! We are a week away from finishing the third quarter of the school year. This year is flying by and the finish is not far away. These next couple months will be packed with different events celebrating our students and their time at Riley. Keep connected to your emails and our social media for these dates.
Our Winter sports season has officially come to a close. I want to take a moment to congratulate all of our athletes on their season. We had a very successful season and our Wildcats make me proud every time I see them competing. We are now moving into the Spring months and Spring sports will be starting up. Softball and Track will be kicking off their seasons in the next couple weeks and everything will be in full swing when we return from Spring Break in April.
WE WILL RAISE THE BAR AT RILEY!
I am looking forward to working with you and your student as we work toward an academically successful school year. I can promise you the best of myself for your students each and every day. Please do not hesitate to contact me at shenderson2@sbcsc.k12.in.us if you have any questions or concerns during the year.
Our Goals:
1) Get students reading on grade level
2) A 95% attendance rate
3) A 90% graduation rate
We greatly appreciate the value that each and every one of our scholars and families brings to Riley. WE ARE THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTHSIDE! WE ARE #RILEYSTRONG!
Sincerely,
Shawn Henderson

ROBOTICS IN ACTION
Riley High School’s FIRST Robotics Team, the Riley WildBots, Competed at FIRST Mishawaka District Event
The Riley WildBots competed in a competition this past weekend at Penn High School in Mishawaka, IN. They competed against a field of 32 teams with their industrial sized robot on a large playing field roughly the size of a basketball court. The team overcame several problems and rose in the rankings throughout the weekend. In the playoffs, the WildBots were part of Alliance 4, with teams 461 Westside Boiler Invasion from West Lafayette, IN and 3176 Purple Precision from Brownsburg, IN. Together, these three teams swept the playoffs and won the event. The team will compete again on March 22-24, 2024 in Plainfield, IN.
The Riley WildBots are a local FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. For the past 13 years,
this team has been committed to building character while building robots. The WildBots provides a place for
students to build STEM and business skills, while also preparing students with the 21st-century
workforce skills they will need to thrive in any career path.
FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate “sport of the mind.” Under strict rules, limited time
and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand”, hone
teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game
against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get.
Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends
with an exciting FIRST Championship.
