Don't Forget!

This year, we strongly encourage all students arrive by 7:50 a.m., as announcements will begin promptly at 7:55 a.m. Instruction will then begin at 8:05 a.m. If your child is arriving at 8:05 a.m., they could potentially miss out on valuable learning opportunities. Please plan accordingly and ensure your child/children arrive by 7:50 a.m. each day.

Important information Important information

Campus Information and Practices

Absences: Please communicate with your child's classroom teacher(s) when your student will be absent. When absent, the student must submit a note within five days of returning. Please offer a doctor's note after any appointments during the school day. Absent notices may be sent to: attendanceswe@fortbendisd.gov

Arrival: SWE staff will be on duty to supervise students beginning at 7:30 a.m. daily when the doors open. Please do not drop off students prior to 7:30 a.m., for their safety. Students will remain in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:50 a.m. Breakfast will be available for purchase in the cafeteria at this time until 7:55. We strongly suggest a drop off time/arrival of no later than 7:50 a.m. Students will report to their classrooms at 7:50 a.m. this year, and announcements will begin at 7:55 a.m. Instruction will start promptly at 8:05, at which time the tardy bell will ring. If a student is not in their classroom by 8:05 am, the student and parent must report to the front office to receive a welcome (but tardy) slip. All exterior doors are locked at 8:05 a.m.

Lunch Visitors: Settlers Way Elementary School will be closed to visitors at lunchtime until September 8th.

Each campus must evaluate its room to accommodate visitors during lunch while providing student space. Once the year gets underway, we will communicate the SWE plan for lunchtime visitors. Please know that we enjoy our visitors and look forward to hosting lunchtime visitors safely and securely.

Dietary Restrictions through the Child Nutrition Department: The Child Nutrition Department can offer dietary accommodations for students at no extra cost for students or families when it is medically necessary. The request forms must be signed by a physician or recognized medical authority and submitted to the Child Nutrition Department by email at DLCNDSpecialDiet@fortbendisd.com.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application: Families are encouraged to apply for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program online here. This will ensure that every student has access to the resources they need to thrive. By applying, families secure meal benefits for their student(s), support school funding, and may even qualify for additional benefits like reduced fees for testing or activities. Even if you are unsure whether you qualify, we strongly encourage you to apply, as you may be eligible and not realize it.

Technology: Students should NOT bring technology devices to SWE. Appropriate FBISD technology will be accessible in every classroom for student use. Students are discouraged from bringing cell phones, tablets, or electronics that may distract from learning.

Dismissal: Students dismiss in various ways (Extended Day Program, daycare, car riders, bus riders, and front/back bike/walkers), so it is crucial that dismissal is systematic and organized to ensure the safety of all involved. Parents will indicate a dismissal plan to the teacher at the beginning of the school year. To adequately prepare for dismissal, parents may not check students out of school after 2:45 pm. All students MUST be picked up by 3:35 pm. The following are details for each dismissal route:

· Extended Day Program (paid FBISD after school program)- Students stay on campus and will be picked up from the Extended Day Room after school by 6:30 p.m. Parents can find Extended Learning Information here.

· Daycare- Parents can arrange private daycare transportation (drop off and pick up) with your daycare facility. Parents should inform the teacher of the daycare name and contact that daycare if the student is absent.

· Car riders/Car Pool- Car riders should be picked up on the side of the school, closest to the cafeteria. Please see the map below for the traffic flow pattern.

· Bus riders- Students load buses from the gym area parking lot. Bus route information (Bus numbers, Bus Stops, and Pick-up and Drop off times) can be found at here.

· Front walkers/bikers- Students who live on the side or in front of Settlers Way meet their parents at the corner of Green Fields and Settlers Way Blvd., across the street from the campus. Parents of PreK/K/1st will cross over to pick up their children (hand to hand) as bike riders cross over.

· Back walkers/bikers- Students who live behind Settlers Way meet their parents at the playground park fence behind the school.

Please note, parents may not park in the teacher parking lot to drop off or pick up students at any time.

All families will be assigned a dismissal rider number should an occasion arise where students need to be dismissed as car riders. You will receive your car rider number on "Meet the Teacher" night.

Dismissal takes a little longer the first few days, so please exercise patience as student safety will always be our number one priority. To have a more efficient dismissal, we ask that you help support the process to maintain safety.

Severe Weather Dismissal Plan: A severe weather dismissal will be called if severe weather (high winds, tornado, lightning, etc.) is present at 2:45 p.m. via Blackboard. For the safety of our students, no walkers or bike riders will be allowed these days. Walkers and bikers will follow their severe weather plan developed by their parents. Students will regularly dismiss in the rain, as long as no severe weather is present, so please ensure your child has an umbrella or raincoat accessible.

Please follow the Golden Rule and do not make a U turn at Green Fields and Flint Rock, to cut in line. This is not courteous to those who have been waiting in line, following the rules. We appreciate your kindness!

New! We are encouraging, ‘Drop and Walk’ at the dead end of Austin Parkway and Settlers Way Blvd (near Providence Church). There is a crossing guard there, as well as at Green Fields Dr. to safely cross students.

SWE also has a carpool/HOV line if you have three or more students to drop off or pick up! There will be a second drop off/pick up line in front of the sidewalk on Green Fields Dr. The tag will be delivered to the oldest student and must be affixed to the bottom of the original tag to enter the second line on campus. Please consider carpooling and fill out the request form below:

SWE Carpool/HOV Tag Request Form

Please know we are committed to doing the best for all our students and parents and appreciate your understanding! Thank you, SWE Admin

The District uses the following criteria to determine a family’s eligibility:

  • Household income that is at or below the income eligibility levels,
  • Households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR), or
  • Children who are in foster care, homeless, a runaway, migrant farm worker or displaced by a declared disaster, or enrolled in Head Start.

The first days of school don’t happen without a whole lot of parent volunteers behind the scenes. 💙

A big thank you to everyone who jumped in to help make our start to the year a little smoother and a lot more special — bringing treats for teachers, helping with first-day decorations, handing out water to our staff at pickup, meeting to plan future Explorer fun and keeping families in the loop along the way.

These are the moments that make a school community feel like a community. We’re so grateful for every hour, idea, errand and helping hand. And we’re just getting started! ✨

Here’s to a great year at SWE! 🩵
