Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Ms. Jackson's ELA Classes?
Ms. Jackson’s classroom has been bustling with activity. We’ve completed our first essays with the conclusion of the second quarter. We’re finishing up our novel, “The Midwife’s Apprentice”, and we are looking forward to our next novel, “Code Talkers”. We will begin our Black History Month projects this week and next week we begin our focus on TDA’s (text dependent analysis).
Additionally, we are doubling down on classroom “norms”. We are staying in the classroom, we are not leaving without passes, and we are treating our classroom as a “community”. We’re expressing ourselves daily as we answer our “social-emotional” writing prompts (in 2-4 sentences of course!) in our daily “warm-ups”.
I have been having a fantastic time here at Scott Middle School. The energy is amazing, and everyone has been warm, friendly, and welcoming. I feel very at home in my new role. Thank you to everyone who has helped to make my transition fabulous.
What Has Been Happening in Ms. Ryan's Classes?
What Has Been Happening in Ms. Fox's Classes?
Mrs. Fox's 6th Grade students are currently working on Unit 3 of TransMath.
Unit 3 Consists of the following concepts:
-Basic and Extended Multiplication Facts
-Factoring out a 10
-Factoring out powers of 10
-Expanded Multiplication
-Multiplying two multi digit numbers
-Comparing Methods of Multiplication
-Estimating products
-Common errors in multiplication
-Problem Solving
-Metric system
-multiplying side lengths
-Estimating length and Distance on a map.
Students enjoy doing the multiplication wheel drills every day.
They also just completed a project identifying angles and lines. Earlier in the year, students researched a number from 11-99 and had to identify various facts of that number. They had to use that number in creating word problems that have the number in the problem and another one that the answer is that number. Students had to identify celebrities who born on that date, history that occurred on that date and various movies or songs with that number in the title.
We end our most classes by playing silent ball for fun.
My students are working hard and I am incredibly proud of each of them. They have all shown growth in various ways.
Honoring Black History Month
We have been learning about influential Black leaders during morning announcements. This week students heard about Carter Woodson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman and Katherine Smith. On Friday, a trivia question was asked and students were able to answer for a chance at a prize. We were very proud of how many students knew that Carter Woodson is credited for the start of Black History Month, but Brayden's name was the one called from the pile. Congratulations, Brayden! Next chance for a prize will be next Friday.
Second Quarter Celebration of Achievement and Growth
Last Friday afternoon we held grade level assemblies to celebrate student success in the second marking period. Students received certificates honoring Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll. GRIT Certificates were also given honoring students that have already made 1 year's growth (100 points or more) in Math and ELA according to our IXL Benchmark testing.
Keep up the great work! We are so proud of you!

Second Quarter Honor Roll
Congratulations to all our students who made the Honor Roll for the Second Marking Period!
Students earning As, Bs, and no more than one C achieved Honors, while those earning all As achieved Distinguished Honors. We celebrated these achievements with grade level assemblies last Friday, and our Honor Roll is proudly displayed in the main hall for the remainder of the year.
Your hard work, focus, and commitment to excellence have truly paid off, and we are incredibly proud of your accomplishments. For those who came close or are still striving, keep pushing forward—every day is a new opportunity to grow, improve, and reach your goals. Let’s make the next marking period even stronger together!

IXL Growth
Congratulations to our students that have already achieved a year's growth according to benchmark testing!
At this point in the year students and staff are able to see and celebrate academic growth. Students completed mid year benchmarks last month, and teachers are working on sharing results and conferencing with students to plan for the second half of the school year. The following list of students have achieved a year's growth or more in the first half of the school year according to their scores on the IXL benchmarks in ELA and Math. This shows just how hard our students (and teachers) are working to learn and grow. Congratulations, we are incredibly proud of your remarkable growth!

February's PBIS Focus- Staying in Class
During January, all classes watched reminder videos about expectations in our classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and cafeteria. Students then took a quiz to demonstrate their understanding. The first WIN classes to achieve at least 80% participation and an average quiz score of 80% or higher earned extra gym time. Congratulations to the following WIN classes: Mr. Dougherty, Mrs. Abgarian, Mrs. Fogg, Ms. Hall, Mr. Hamilton, and Ms. Taylor!
Our PBIS team meets twice a month to review office referrals and behavior data. Based on this information, they select a monthly focus area. As you may know from previous Monday Morning Messages, many of our students have been struggling to get to class on time and to remain in class when feeling frustrated. This month, we are focusing on both of these areas. Students who arrive to class on time and stay in class will be rewarded later this month with a student vs. teacher game of Knock Out.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with your students about the importance of arriving to class on time and staying engaged in their learning. Remember our motto at Scott: We enter to learn and leave to achieve. We can only do that if we are doing our best inside classrooms every day.
PA School Climate and Student Engagement Surveys
This year, Coatesville Area School District (CASD) will use the Pennsylvania Climate Survey (PA Climate Survey) and a Student Engagement Survey to gain valuable insights into our school climate, student engagement/involvement, and to make meaningful improvements in CASD. The PA Climate Survey is conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Education Office for Safe Schools (PDEOSS).
Your student’s input is essential. Two brief surveys are conducted with all students (grades 6-12), and we would appreciate your students’ participation.
What does participation look like?
Your students’ ELA teacher will administer the surveys between Friday February 13 and Friday February 20, 2026.
Student Survey Information
Students in grades 6–12 will be asked to complete the Pennsylvania Climate Survey & Student Engagement Survey during the school day. This short, anonymous survey helps us understand student experiences and guides improvements to make our schools safe, welcoming, and supportive for every child.
If you would like to review the survey questions in advance, please email me directly and I will gladly provide a copy. Families who prefer that their child not participate may contact their child’s principal to opt out.
Additional Survey Details
All survey responses are completely confidential. Note that combined statewide or regional data may be used to look at trends, evaluate programs, and help guide planning and improvements in our schools.
The PA School Climate and Student Engagement Survey focus on key areas that support student learning and well-being:
- Student Support & Engagement: How much students feel listened to, cared for, and supported by teachers and other adults to reach their goals.
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): How well students and staff support and relate to each other.
- Safe & Respectful School Climate: How safe and respected students and staff feel at school, both physically and emotionally.
- Inclusion and Belonging: How included and connected students are to the school community.
Thank you for partnering with us to make a positive impact on our school community.
Kind Regards,
Dawn Mader, Director of Student Climate and Belonging
