  • We can not accommodate for extra time.
  • As a reminder, do not tell your child that you are coming if it is difficult or you are not sure you can make it.
  • It is better to surprise your child than disappoint him/her. We have had several students crying during their lunch time and the they don't eat.
  • Please no phones while you are spending time with you child. Ask him/her about their day or what they learned.

Winter is approaching! As you send your child with a jacket or a coat, make sure it has his/her name written on the tag.

Hydration is very important and we need you to help us keeping your child hydrated. Please send a bottle with water (preferably in a thermos) daily. Make sure it has your child's name written on it. Drinking from the water fountain is not safe for our little kindergarteners.

Assignments for the month Assignments for the month

Reading

Module 3 "Heroes in our community" and Module 4 "Happy healthy me".

During these months we continue working with fiction stories focusing on the characters and the setting, and the plot of the story (identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story.

For our informational texts we will identify the main idea and the details that support it.

Writing

We will continue working on telling the big and small stories of our lives, exploring how writers get ideas from their own life's experiences to write stories.

We will also begin our informative writing, learning how to research and write facts about a given topic.

Phonics - English

  • Identify initial sounds and alliteration. For example: Sammy saw six snakes. This sentence has the /S/ sound at the beginning or each word.
  • Identify the final sound. with emphasis on letters N, D, C, P and short i. Use flash cards to assist with learning letters, making sure the cards are not in ABC order.
  • Segmenting onset-rime . Segmenting means breaking words into two parts, the onset and the rime. The onset is either a consonant or cluster of them at the start of a syllable, while the rime is its remainder. So, for an onset and rime example, let’s look at the word climb: cl- is the onset, while -imb is the rhyme.
  • Blending onset-rime. Blending means to combine 2 sounds to form a word. In this case, you might give your child the sounds /m/ and /ug/ to form the word mug.
  • Consonants f, and r, and the s in plural words.

Math

  • Recognize, write, order, recite and take apart numbers 1-20 understanding that numbers can be represented in different ways.
  • Recognize flat and solid shapes.

Science

  • Uses of Rocks and Soil. We will learn about how people use rocks and soil in their everyday lives.
  • Water - Properties and Uses. We will study the physical properties of water like clarity, taste and smell. We will discuss how people use water in their daily lives.
  • Weather. We will be able to describe daily weather and how it affects our lives.

Social Studies

  • Jobs in the community. We will continue describing how people get money and the use of technology to make our lives easier in all kinds of jobs.
  • Goods and Services. Identify the difference between both. Goods are objects we buy and services are tasks performed for the benefit of the consumer. The consumer is the person paying for the good or the service.
  • Thanksgiving. We will understand why we celebrate Thanksgiving.

Keep in mind that we have elections on Nov. 5th, so we will be discussing elections for 2 days in Nov. 2nd and 4th.
