The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Community Update
CES SHARK Alert for Week of May 12th - 16th
Sunday, May 11th
Dear CES families and friends,
Happy Mother's Day to all!
This week our 3rd and 4th-grade students will participate in the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) Mathematics testing. MCAS testing is important because it provides an objective measure of student and school progress, helps identify areas needing support, and ensures accountability for schools and districts, ultimately aiming to improve student outcomes and ensure they are prepared for college, careers, and life. While successful completion of the MCAS exams are no longer a graduation requirement in Massachusetts, our state, district, and school will continue to use the assessment to inform instruction and decision-making.
- Grade 3 students will test on Monday and Tuesday.
- Grade 4 students will test on Wednesday and Thursday.
Before any big assessment we recommend the following:
- a good night's sleep
- a healthy breakfast (breakfast is served at school as well)
- plenty of water
- arriving at school on time (student's who arrive after 8:15 will have to retest on a different date)
- lots of encouragement
MCAS is a great opportunity for our SHARKS to show-off how much they have learned this year! We believe in our SHARKS and encourage them to put forth their best effort during testing. Please join us in cheering on our scholarly SHARKS as they start testing this week.
On Friday of this week, we look forward to welcoming families and friends to the Spring Arts Festival. The event begins at 12:45 pm in the gym. Doors open at 12:30. Guests will be treated to musical performances from each grade, the CES Chorus, violins, and the CES Band. At the conclusion of the concert, families are invited to meet their student(s) and tour the building to view student art work displayed throughout the hallways.
Have a wonderful week and to all the mother and mother-figures, have a wonderful Mother's Day!!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelly
Field Day - Tuesday, June 3rd
Volunteers Needed
Chatham Elementary School's annual Field Day will be on Tuesday, June 3rd. This all-day event is for all CES students. Families and caregivers are welcome to join us for the festivities. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down the event and classroom volunteers are needed to travel with classes from activity to activity. If you can volunteer your time, please sign up on the volunteer sheet located here. A reminder that all volunteers must have a current CORI form on file with MRSD.
Field Day officially begins at 8:15 and is divided into three main stations: water games (CES parking lot), carnival games (Little League field behind Monomoy Youth Services), and field games (Chatham A's field). Classes spend one hour at each station and have the opportunity to play all of the games at each station. The day ends with our annual tug-of-war competition on the A's field, followed by a soaking from our friends at the Chatham Fire Department.
Students will receive their field day t-shirts in homeroom the morning of the event. We highly recommend that students bring a towel and are prepared for a full day in the sun with hats and/or sunscreen, and a water bottle. Many students choose to wear a bathing suit under their shorts and t-shirts.
