Attendance letters
On November 2nd, our school will be sending out attendance updates to keep families informed and partner together in supporting student success. Please take a moment to review the details below:
Monthly Attendance Summary (Sent to ALL families):
Every family will receive our monthly attendance letter. This is part of our commitment to regular, consistent communication regarding your child’s time at school.45-Day Attendance Letter (Sent to SELECT families):
Some families will receive a 45-day attendance letter. This letter is sent if a student has been absent or tardy for 10% or more of the school year so far (which equals 5 or more days).
Why 10% Matters:
We track the 10% benchmark because it is directly tied to chronic absenteeism. Missing just 2 days per month can quickly add up to 18 or more absences by the end of the school year, putting a student in the chronically absent category. Currently, 5.5% of our students (34 students) meet the threshold for chronic absenteeism, and our goal is to support every student in attending school regularly.
Attendance is key to building strong learning habits, connection, and growth. If you have any questions or need support getting your child to school on time every day, please reach out to us.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month
To show support for students and families in our school community, we invite everyone to wear blue every Monday throughout the month of November to show support for Diabetes awareness.
Volunteers Needed: Library Lunch
LIBRARY LUNCH:
Miller School is seeking volunteers to supervise a “Library Lunch” option for students who are interested in reading in a quiet spot after they finish their lunch. We are seeking volunteers on the identified days below to get us to the end of November. Volunteers are needed from 10:30am-12:20pm.
Important Information for Volunteers:
We need 2-3 Volunteers to supervise library lunch at a time.
Volunteers will greet the students in the cafe and walk them to the Miller Library.
Volunteers should monitor the lunchtime and be sure students are ready to go to class at the end of their scheduled time.
When signing up list your time slot that you will be attending.
All volunteers must have an active CORI on file.
Volunteers Needed: Laps at Lunch
LAPS AT LUNCH
Laps at Lunch is a program that will provide Miller school students with an opportunity to move their bodies, connect with friends, and relieve stress during their lunch period on identified days beginning on September 17, 2025.
Volunteers are needed from 10:30-12:20
This program is supported by the Miller School administration and the District Wellness Council, and to be successful, the program needs parent/guardian support! This is a fun way to volunteer and get involved with the school community!
All volunteers must have an active CORI on file. click here to sign up!

Holiday Dreams
As we approach the holiday season, we understand that this time of year can sometimes bring additional stress, especially with the many expenses that come with holiday celebrations.
With this in mind, we would like to extend a warm offer of support to your family through the Holiday Dreams Foundation. The foundation aims to ensure that each family can enjoy their holidays with a little more joy and comfort by purchasing toys, educational items, and/or clothing. If the foundation can assist your family during the holiday season, we encourage you to complete this form by Wednesday, November 5th.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your student's school counselor.
EL PAC from Karen Bourne
Dear Holliston Families,
With our growing community of multilingual students, Holliston Public Schools is proud to launch our English Learner Parent Advisory Council (EL PAC) this school year! The EL PAC offers parents and guardians a meaningful way to advise district leadership, share feedback on language programs, and connect with other multilingual families. Our first meeting will be in December via Zoom and is open to anyone!
Thank you to the 80+ students and family members who joined us last week for our Multilingual Learner Welcome Event! It was wonderful introducing our district EL teaching team and Dr. Karen Bourn, Director of Teaching & Learning, as well as sharing our introductory presentation, En Español and Em Português.
We already have several wonderful parent volunteers, but we are seeking a few more families for our council.
If you would like to participate or serve as a parent leader, please contact Dr. Karen Bourn at BournK@holliston.k12.ma.us.
Best,
Dr. Karen Bourn
Director of Teaching and Learning
News from our Humanities and Math Specialists
On Monday, The National Theater for Children, sponsored by Eversource, energized our 5th graders with "Power Players!" Between laughs, improv, and non-stop excitement, our students learned all about natural resources and smart ways to conserve energy. Get ready: your child might just start swooping in to unplug your phone chargers and turn off the lights at home!
