Happenings in the Den
Hello Potomac Families,
Can you believe we are already entering Week 8 of the school year? This is a wonderful time to reflect on all that we have accomplished together so far. Our Homecoming celebration was a tremendous success! From an exciting Spirit Week to our victory over the Bulldogs and an incredible Homecoming Dance, it was truly a memorable week for our Potomac Panthers.
As we begin wrapping up the first quarter, which ends on October 30, 2026, I encourage all students to take time to review their grades, complete any missing assignments, and connect with their teachers if they have questions or need additional support. Please note that students will not attend school on October 12, 2026, providing an excellent opportunity to focus on academic progress and preparation.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, all PWCS students have access to Khan Academy, a valuable resource for strengthening academic skills and preparing for upcoming assessments. During Advisory this past week, students had the opportunity to access Khan Academy and begin practicing for the PSAT, which will be administered on October 14, 2026.
Students in grades 9-11 will participate in the PSAT. This assessment offers many benefits, including helping students become familiar with the SAT experience while receiving personalized reports that highlight their strengths and areas for growth. Strong PSAT performance can also increase visibility with colleges and scholarship organizations, which may provide information about academic opportunities, fee waivers, and recruitment programs. In addition, the PSAT serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), and qualifying scores may make students eligible for prestigious National Merit Scholarship opportunities.
Seniors should not report to school on October 14, 2026. This will be an asynchronous learning day for all 12th-grade students.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Let's finish the first quarter strong as we continue to Pursue. Persist. Prevail.
Have a wonderful week, Potomac Family! πΎππ
October 19 thru October 23 is Virginia College Application Week.
Week at a glance
Bullying prevention
This week counselors will present bully lessons to our 10th grade students through their Health and PE classes. Please follow up with your students to expand on this very important topic.
Attendance reminders
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to student success. We are working hard to help our scholars develop responsibility, accountability, and strong habits that will support them both in school and beyond. Your partnership is critical in this effort, and we appreciate your support in ensuring that students attend school daily and arrive on time, ready to learn.
