DRESS CODE REMINDER
Please take a moment to review the updated DHS Student Handbook!
We want to remind all students and families that there have been some changes and updates to the Dress Code policy for the 2026β2027 school year.
π Please refer to Page 26 of the Student Handbook for the complete Dress Code and Personal Appearance guidelines.
K. Dress Code and Personal Appearance
In general, clothing needs to be clean and appropriate for school. Shoes must always be worn (state law). Students cannot wear attire which interferes with the operation of the school or which impinges upon the general health, safety, and welfare of the district, students, or employees. To help clarify and provide examples of what we mean by βappropriate dress,β please refer to the lists below. Even though this list is not exhaustive, we have tried in good faith to provide students and their parents with some guidelines.
The Following Attire and Accessories Are Not Permitted, Including but Not Limited To:
β’ Clothing that exposes private body parts or undergarments. Underwear may not show.
β’ Shorts, skirts and dresses (more than 7β above the crease behind the knee)
β’ Jeans/slacks MUST NOT have holes that expose skin in areas more than 7β above the crease behind the knee
β’ Tube tops: Tops must be secured by straps, sleeves, or another design feature that allows students to participate comfortably and safely in school activities throughout the day.
β’ Shirts/tops/dresses showing midriff
β’ Shirts/tops/dresses that are cut too low 27
β’ See-through tops (undergarment must meet dress code)
β’ Pajamas/pajama pants. Blankets may not be used or wrapped around a student. β’ Hats, bandanas, hoods or headgear (including sunglasses) must be removed upon entering the building.
β’ Chains, spikes, safety pins, or accessories that could present a safety risk
β’ Students must wear appropriate footwear at all times. Bare feet, slippers without soles, and shoes with wheels are not permitted due to safety concerns.
β’ Articles of clothing with inappropriate subject matter, profanity, slogans or symbols, which promote or make reference to substances that would be considered illegal for minors, including alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. In addition, the article of clothing should not display words, symbols, or pictures that would be considered derogatory, obscene, vulgar, violent, racist, or gang-related.
β’ Attire or accessories that prevent the identification of the student during the school day. This includes costume-like clothing, masks, or makeup that obscures a student's identity.
Teachers/Administrators may ask students to remove jewelry during physical activities in the classrooms or gym classes to ensure the safety of all students.
Staff will address dress code concerns respectfully and privately whenever possible.
* This standard may not be used for kindergarten students.
