SHS/PGS Principal's Newsletter
June 2026 Edition
Principal's Message:
To The Sequoia High School, Port Gardner Parent Partnership & High School Online Options Community -
With a total of 34 years in education, 21 years in the Everett School District, and some current health issues, I have decided that it is time for me to retire. I will complete the school year contract which concludes on June 30, 2026.
I am hopeful that the staff, students, and parents at SHS/PGS/HS Online will experience a smooth transition. I am willing to provide any assistance to the next principal that will lead the amazing programs that I had been entrusted to lead.
Thank you again for allowing me to end my career working with such a wonderful group.
With the utmost gratitude and respect,
Jack L. Roy
Retiring Principal

Core Value Champion for Learning!
Congratulations Naomi Bissell
Each month an Everett Public Schools student can be nominated by their teacher who demonstrates the Core Value of the Month. The nominations are sent to Administration where students are selected to be recognized as a Core Value Champion.
Mrs. Hinds nominated Naomi for exemplifying the Core Value of the Month, Learning. Here's what she wrote about Naomiβ¦
"Naomi Bissell consistently demonstrates the core value of learning through her curiosity and openness to learning new things. She challenges herself in learning situations and actively seeks to understand. With her determination and willingness, she can learn anything!"
Congratulations Naomi!

High School Online Options
HS Online Student of the Month
May 2026
Congratulations to EHS Senior, Afton Bosch!
Aftyn has taken Myth & Legends, Creative Writing, and Civics through High School Online Options. Aftyn perseveres even when things are tough and is really engaged with her own learning and growth.
When asked the following questions, this is what Afton had to say:
Why did you take online courses?
I started taking online courses originally because I wanted a gap in my on-site Everett High schedule, but for 2 semesters, I transitioned to Running Start with some online classes.
What do you like about taking an online class?
I enjoy the interaction with my teacher in my English Elective online courses. I also find it to be easier at times because I don't get interrupted by other students, like in-person classes.
Are you involved in any clubs/activities/sports or anything else? Hobbies?
I plan to return to extracurricular activities again soon after taking a break and plan to join clubs at EVCC.
What are your plans for the future?
I am currently undecided about what is next, but I am considering pursuing studies in art history or astrophysics.
The High School Online Options team is quite impressed with Aftyn! Congratulations, kiddo and best of luck in your next chapter!
Walk FITT, HS Online Options Health Class Log Pics taken by Students
Course Descriptions:
In Walk FITT 1, students will experience an increase in cardiorespiratory endurance, core strength, and stamina. These life-changing results will occur over a 12-week period of logging daily steps based on a personalized fitness plan which includes body weight movements to help facilitate a comprehensive approach to walking/step fitness along with a weekly increase in steps. Each student will be expected to track steps using their iPhone or Android step app of choice. Weekly log submissions along with Canvas module assignments are required.
In Walk FITT 2, students will develop a personalized fitness plan based on the number of steps they take a day, focused on their personal goals and log activity for 12 weeks. But before they do that, students will dive into the mechanics of muscles and flexibility. Additionally, students will work together with a group online to complete an ongoing project. This course will challenge students to improve their walk fitness. Tracking steps with a pedometer, weekly and consistent logging is required.
