IUSD's ELA/ELD Adoption

Irvine Unified is in the process of piloting new English Language Arts and English Language Development materials for K-8 students. One grade level per K-8 school is piloting across IUSD. Each pilot team will pilot two materials and in the Spring will make a decision to adopt.

Below you will find a timeline of our ELA/ELD Adoption process.

K-8 Common Interests for IUSD

The K-8 teacher representatives on the ELA/ELD Adoption Committee created common interests for IUSD.

ELA/ELD Adoption Pilot Process

One grade level team at each elementary and middle school in IUSD will pilot two sets of publisher materials during the 2016-2017 school year. Teachers on piloting teams will receive ongoing training and support from the district’s Literacy Department and publishers throughout the school year. Round one will begin in August and round two will begin in October/November.

Pilot Round One (August- November)

K-5 McGraw Hill's Wonders

All K-5 pilot teachers will start the pilot of ELA/ELD materials with McGraw Hill's Wonders.

6-8 McGraw Hill's StudySync

All 6-8 pilot teachers will start the pilot of ELA/ELD materials with McGraw Hill's StudySync.

Pilot Round Two (November- January)

K-2 Houghton Mifflin

All K-2 pilot teachers will switch to Houghton Mifflin for the second half of the pilot process.

3-6 Benchmark Advance

All 3-5 pilot teachers will switch to Benchmark Advance for the second half of the pilot process.

7-8 Houghton Mifflin and College Board

Based on site choice, Rancho, Venado, and Vista Verde will pilot Houghton Mifflin for the second half of the pilot process. Jeffrey Trail, Lakeside, Plaza Vista, Sierra Vista, and South Lake will pilot College Board for the second half of the pilot process.
