Dear Eaton Families,

Wait Until 8th - A Conversation about Smart Phones, Social Media and our Children

On April 30th, a group of Middle School Principals and an Assistant DA will be presenting a session on "Wait Until 8th - A Conversation about Smart Phones, Social Media and our Children" at 6:00pm at Blair Elementary Auditorium. This session is intended for pre-K - 8 families.

PTA General Assembly Meeting

Please join us on Tuesday, May 7th, at 9:00 in the cafeteria for our PTA General Assembly Meeting.

A Second Primary Election will be held on May 14th. This is not a Teacher Workday for students. Eaton is a voting site. Voters will only be allowed in the multi-purpose room. Students and staff are not permitted in the voting room. Voters will not have access to the school. Student safety is a top priority. Additional staff members will be used to support morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

Volunteers/Visitors During EOG Testing

Classroom volunteers and lunch visitors are not allowed on campus during EOG testing. The last day for volunteers and visitors is Thursday, May 23rd.

PowerSchool Parent Portal/Technology Survey

Stay connected and stay informed! If you haven't signed up for the parent portal in PowerSchool yet, you may have missed out on an important survey. This survey is crucial as it provides essential data required by the state of North Carolina, particularly regarding internet connectivity at home.

But don't worry, it's not too late to participate! By signing up for the parent portal and filling in the survey there, your information will seamlessly sync with our end-of-year reporting to the state.

Remember, your input matters, and it's vital for us to have this information by June 30, 2024.

Morning Drop-Off Reminders

As a friendly reminder, students may enter the school building at 7:10. The tardy bell rings at 7:40. Staff members are outside assisting students until the 7:35 warning bell. If you arrive after 7:35 we kindly ask that you park and come inside to check in your student. Please do not let students out and allow them to run across the parking lot, as this is unsafe for students. We also ask that you remain in our drop-off line and do not park and walk students across the walkway unless you are coming in to volunteer.

NHCS Standard Response Protocol

Please see district safety information regarding the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) currently used throughout the district. You may access the SRP Parent Handout below, as well as learn more through iloveyouguys.org

SRP ♥ The "I Love U Guys" Foundation

SRP ♥ The "I Love U Guys" Foundation

Easy to understand. Easy to implement. A uniform, planned, and practiced response to any incident is the foundation of a safe school. Safe business. Safe community. The SRP is action-based, flexible, and easy to learn. It rationally organizes tactics for response to weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to personal safety.

Volunteer Information

All volunteers, both Levels 1 and 2, must complete volunteer training each school year.

All field trip chaperones must become a Level II volunteer, which requires a background check through NHCS. Background checks are good for three years. You can log into your account to check your expiration date, or contact Mrs. Allen. The NHCS background check system is linked below. Level 2 volunteers must also complete the orientation and assessment each year.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Level I

Parents, family, or community members volunteering to assist students in a supervised setting are not required to undergo a background check if they are continually supervised by school personnel during the school day.

Level II

Parents, family, or community members volunteering to assist students in an unsupervised setting away from school personnel are deemed Level II Volunteers. We also ask that all chaperones become Level II volunteers, as well as those interested in assisting in our media center and cafeteria at Eaton Elementary. An applicant designated a Level II Volunteer must complete the online application and the criminal background check. Applications must be completed at least two weeks prior to the time you wish to begin volunteering. The cost of background checks are $22.50.

Steps to Take to Become A Volunteer:

  • Review Volunteer Orientation Presentation

  • Read the Volunteer Handbook

  • Complete the Volunteer Assessment with 80% or Higher (You may retake the assessment if needed)

  • Level 2 Volunteers must also complete a Background Check application and pay $22.50

  • Email Mrs. Allen to let her know you completed the steps to become a volunteer
