Egg-cellent Collaboration
Cheltenham High School WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Club and Cheltenham Elementary‘s Room 4 kindergarten class continued their partnership for the fourth year in a row! Mrs. Baron’s Room 4 CES class took a short bus trip up to CHS where the WISE club members taught the concept of gravity, impact and cushion. The kindergarteners, along with their “big kid” helper, designed, engineered and tested their protective structures for an egg drop experiment. On behalf of Earth Day, the kindergartners and high schoolers used recycled materials (boxes, cotton balls, paper towel rolls, plastic bags and so much more) to engineer a structure to protect their egg from cracking from the impact of falling from a high distance. CTC Youth Group Hosts “Family Feud”-Style Program
The Cheltenham Communities That Care youth group created a “Family Feud”-style game show called “Keep It Safe” and invited CHS students to be audience members. The game focused on drug and alcohol facts. CTC gave away tons of gift cards and CJ’s Sweet Palace served pretzels and water ice afterwards!

Mock Caldecott Winner Named at Myers
The votes are in! Last month, Myers students participated in their annual schoolwide "Mock Caldecott" unit. The Caldecott annually recognizes the preceding year's most distinguished American picture book for children. The entire school read four new picture books in library classes after learning about criteria for the book award. Carefully selected by librarian Deirdre McKeon and library aide Sherry Hazlewood, the books were chosen for their skillful artwork, visual storytelling, and (most importantly!) appeal to children. Student cast their vote by drawing their favorite's covers or an illustration from inside the book. With 126 student votes, the winning book was "Don't Trust Fish" by Neil Sharpson and illustrated by Dan Santat. Runners up were "Cranky, Crabby, Crow (Saves the World)" by Corey R. Tabor, "Broken" by X. Fang, and "Every Monday Mabel" by Jashar Awan.
CHS Students Visit Cattle Car Exhibition
Fifty Cheltenham High School juniors learned about the Holocaust Tuesday in a unique and immersive way: a visit to the the first Holocaust awareness museum in the United States, the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center (HAMEC) at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, to visit a cattle car exhibition brought to Elkins Park by the group Hate Ends Now. Groups of 25 students stepped into a replica World War II cattle car used by the Nazis to transport Jews to concentration camps. Students were packed in tight, which helped them understand the effect this would have had on the 80-100 Jews who were crammed in during the Holocaust. Inside the car, where shoeprints of all sizes marked the floor, played a dynamic audio and visual presentation, complete with interviews from survivors, about the rise of hate that led to the genocide. Following the cattle car experience, the students visited HAMEC, where Hate Ends Now was exhibiting artifacts like shoes, coins and postcards, and learned how Nazis used everyday items like children’s books and clocks to normalize hate.
SSAC @ CBK
During April's Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) meeting, CBK students shared with Dr. Brian Scriven how the council fosters a supportive environment for hearing diverse perspectives and understanding district policies. Key feedback focused on maximizing impact through better technology use, peer mentoring, and increased cross-level collaboration to ensure student voices drive direct solutions.

Legislative Board Meeting - April 2026
Facilities Committee - April 2026
With co-chair Dr. Caroline Watts presiding, the Facilities Committee convened for its monthly meeting Tuesday, April 7 at the Administration Building and on Zoom. The agenda included project updates from across the district. CSD Director of Facilities and Maintenance Anthony Carter opened the presentation discussing building access control and the need to find a new vendor offering more advantages due to the current system’s reaching its end of life. Mr. Carter also delivered updates on the strategic plan projects at Cedarbrook and Glenside, also stating the stadium project was on course to be ready to host graduation and on budget, though contingencies are in place to use Arcadia for graduation. Regarding the Cedarbrook and Glenside projects, the projects are in the beginning stages and on budget. Mr. Carter also updated the community on the progress made with updating the baseball fields at Cedarbrook and the high school. Mr. Carter then spoke about issues with the generator at Glenside and how it is being rehabilitated. Finally, he addressed a heating issue in the kitchen at Myers. The next Facilities Committee meeting is May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Administration Building and on Zoom. Slide deck>

Does your child receive extra support at school, or are you wondering how schools help students who need additional assistance? Or who do you reach out to with questions?
Join this virtual program hosted by SEAC and presented by Dr. Stephen Catrambone, Director of Special Education, and Ms. Jessica Keene, Director of Student Services, for a family-friendly information session to learn about how Cheltenham School District schools support students through Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and the differences between IEPs and 504 Plans. This session will help families and caregivers better understand how schools work to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students.
