Freshman CADs!
CAD has been a big hit with our new incoming students! Over the past few weeks, they've been diving into the world of 3D design, mastering the creation of basic shapes and objects. But it hasn’t stopped there—these young innovators have quickly progressed to designing real-world items. From sleek iPhone cases to intricate custom designs, they’ve truly embraced the creative possibilities of CAD. One standout project comes from one of our talented freshmen, who designed and 3D printed mini storage boxes perfect for holding LEGO bricks. These functional boxes fit seamlessly into our LEGO drawer, showcasing the students' problem-solving and practical application of their new skills.
As part of their learning, students have had the opportunity to see their digital designs come to life through 3D printing, turning their ideas into physical objects they can use and share. It's inspiring to watch the excitement build as they bring their creative concepts into the real world. Below, you'll find photos of some of their cool CAD creations!
Through trial and error, the Timberwolves have succeeded in 3D printing our sister team, the Pup Cups' team mascot -- Timmy. We used different colors to print out a singular solid object - a very difficult feat!

Water Fire, Providence
Our team had the incredible opportunity to showcase our robot, Wolf Gang, at the Water Fire Providence event, specifically during the Robots on Fire gathering, which was graciously hosted by our friends from Team 6328, Mechanical Advantage. This event provided a unique platform for us to connect with fellow robotics enthusiasts from across New England, allowing us to strengthen existing friendships and forge new ones with several teams we hadn’t met before.
Despite the rainy weather, the Timberwolves were determined to make the most of the day. We proudly displayed Wolf Gang and were thrilled to engage with attendees, explaining our robot’s various subsystems and sharing the intricacies of our design and engineering process with anyone who showed interest. It was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the hard work and dedication our team has put into this season's project.
In addition to showcasing our robot, the Timberwolves enjoyed some valuable team bonding time by the riverbank, where gondoliers lit bonfires on the water, creating a beautiful and atmospheric backdrop. The combination of camaraderie and the enchanting setting made for a memorable experience that went beyond just robotics.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the town of Providence for hosting this amazing event! We had a fantastic time, and we look forward to participating in more events like this in the future.
Off Season Events
On September 14th, the Timberwolves kicked off the off-season by attending Mayhem in Merrimack, bringing only Team 1153 to the competition. The team performed remarkably well, placing 5th out of 21 teams, setting the tone for a strong season ahead. Then, on September 28th, we headed to the Clipper Clash with both Team 1153 and our rookie squad, Team 1119. In an exciting twist, it was Walpole versus Walpole in the final rounds! Team 1153 emerged victorious, while Team 1119 finished as finalists, meaning every member of our teams went home with a trophy.
Team 1153's victory wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible alliance formed with our talented teammates: Team 1768, Nashoba Robotics; Team 69, HYPER; and Team 5000, the Hammerheads. We extend a huge thank you to our partners for playing with us and making the win possible.
These events also served as driver tryouts for the upcoming season, giving our new members a chance to show off their skills and compete in a high-pressure environment. Competing alongside our New England peers, both teams had the chance to fine-tune strategies, bond as a group, and gain valuable experience. It was an amazing way to prepare for the exciting season ahead!

FIRST LEGO League Teams
Our LEGO League teams have officially launched into their seasons, and the enthusiasm is contagious! We are thrilled to introduce teams #61395, the Sea Pups, #56346, the Mighty Minnows, and #55822, the Aqua Bots. These budding engineers are already diving deep into their innovation projects, which this year revolve around ocean-related challenges. The teams are tasked with identifying a real-world problem, designing an innovative solution, and embodying core values throughout the process. Excitingly, most of the students are interested in using drones to address ocean issues, and one team has focused on how kelp farming could be used for creating everyday objects. Their curiosity and passion are setting the stage for some truly remarkable projects!
Beyond brainstorming, we’ve already started conducting research and team-building exercises to help guide their creative process. The collaborative energy and teamwork are impressive, and we can’t wait to see where these projects lead.
Our LEGO League program is entirely student-led, taking place at the Walpole Public Library, where we’ve been fortunate to hold our meetings. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Walpole Public Library for graciously providing the space and supporting our young innovators as they explore the exciting world of STEM. We’re proud to help nurture these young minds, and the library's partnership is instrumental in making this possible!
Norwood Farmers Market
Though our home base is in Walpole, we always jump at the opportunity to spread our love for STEM to nearby communities. This month, we had the privilege of returning to the Norwood Farmer's Market, where we proudly displayed our Frisbee bot. The event was a hit, with many visitors stopping by to watch our robot in action as it skillfully launched frisbees into the crowd. It was fantastic to see the excitement on people’s faces as they interacted with our creation and learned more about the world of robotics and engineering.
Throughout the day, we enjoyed connecting with local families and sharing the importance of STEM education, sparking interest in young minds and adults alike. We’ll be returning to the market on select Tuesdays this season, offering more chances to see our innovative robots in action. Whether you're passionate about robotics or simply curious to see what we do, we welcome everyone to stop by, say hello, and join us in celebrating the power of STEM and technology in bringing communities together!
