“On that day, a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.” Isaiah 11.1
Dear brothers and sisters,
I heard a homily recently from a priest who shared that he has heard and read many times the following passage from the prophet Isaiah, “that a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse and from his roots a bud shall blossom” (cf: Isaiah 11.1ff), but had never thought to reflect on why the tree of Jesse has been reduced to a stump.
Recall that God had promised that the Messiah will come from David’s lineage, and as Jesse is the father of David, the tree of Jesse represents his lineage as David is his son. However, the fall of Jerusalem by the Babylonians broke the Davidic line of kings, thus, Jesse’s “tree” was cut off and became no more than a stump.
With that context in mind and in re-reading the passage from the prophet Isaiah, “that a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse,” tells us that the tree, Jesse’s lineage, though cut, never died and that the shoot that would come from that stump would bring new life into the Davidic line of kings… Jesus the Christ, the King of kings!
How beautiful that is when we take time to reflect on the words of Scripture to help illustrate to us in our life that nothing is truly dead when God, Jesus, is involved.
Thus, we have this hope-filled season in which we celebrate Advent, a time of great expectation for our Savior’s return, and with him, all of our hopes and dreams.
As we approach Christmas in the coming weeks, what do you long for? What do you hope for? Don’t be afraid to ask of it from Jesus, this Christmas.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!
Fr Peter

Spend Time With Jesus in Adoration
“The coming of Jesus at Bethlehem brought joy to the world and to every human heart. The same Jesus comes again and again in our hearts during Holy Communion. He wants to give the same joy and peace… Let us pray much for this grace of peace and joy in our own heart, in our communities, in our society and in the Church” ( St. Teresa of Calcutta).
There are open adoration hours as prayer partners with other adorers. Contact Barb Kleiter at 651-774-1172 for more information on open adoration hours or log on to https://presentation.weadorehim.com

Join us for Caroling on Christmas Eve!
Our 4pm Christmas Eve Mass is designed for children and families to come together in prayer, praise, song, and exuberant anticipation. Therefore, everyone planning to attend this Mass is invited to arrive at 3:30 to sing Christmas Carols together before mass begins!
Additionally, any who are looking to get involved in this Mass, particularly families and children, are welcome to come at 3pm and join the choir that will be leading the carols and the sung Mass responses.
Make it a family tradition! Christmas liturgies always feel most special if we are personally involved in them, and they’re all the more special when whole families do something together like this!
