Holy Rosary
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3| WEEK 4| 15TH AUG 2025
Today our school celebrated mass together for the Assumption of Mary.
The Assumption of Mary reminds us of her special place in God’s plan. At the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. This feast celebrates her deep faith, her role as the mother of Jesus, and her example of love and obedience to God. It is a day of hope, reminding us that we are all called to share in God’s promise of eternal life.
Loving God,
Today we celebrate the Assumption of Mary, your faithful servant.
May we, like Mary, say “yes” to your call with courage and trust.
Help us to live with love, humility, and joy,
And to bring peace and kindness to those around us.
Amen.
Dear Parents, Friends, Guardians and Staff,
Dominican Dance Group – A Magical Performance!
We are thrilled to celebrate the exceptional performance by our Dominican Dance Group, who truly brought the stage to life with their piece "Magic in Me." The energy, creativity, and joy displayed by our dancers were simply fabulous.
Congratulations to all our talented performers, and a special thank you to our brilliant choreographer Miss Vivante for her inspiring leadership and vision. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Miss Isla Cornwall for her invaluable support throughout the preparation and performance.
It was a proud moment for our school community, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it so special.
Student Arrival Times & Supervision Reminder
A reminder to all families that student supervision begins at 8:15 am in the undercover area. Students should not arrive at school before this time unless attending Discovery Kids Before School Care.
Please note that playgrounds, the oval, and spaces outside the junior classrooms are not supervised before or after school. While parents may choose to supervise their own children during these times, the school does not accept responsibility for students outside of supervised hours and areas.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and well-supervised environment for all.
Class Groupings – 2026 and Beyond
From the beginning of the 2026 school year, student class groupings will be reshuffled annually. This approach supports both academic and social-emotional development, ensuring balanced and inclusive classrooms.
The process will involve student input to generate a sociogram, helping us understand friendship dynamics and social connections. Leadership will then work to create well-balanced classes, considering academic needs, social-emotional wellbeing, and peer relationships.
If there is confidential information relevant to your child’s wellbeing that may assist in this process and your child’s current teacher is not aware, please email me directly at michael.odwyer@cewa.edu.au before the close of business on 28 August. I appreciate you sharing this relevant information. While it will be considered as part of your child’s overall needs, please understand that it will not be the sole factor in our decision-making. I will not be entering into further correspondence regarding this matter.
We are fortunate to have an exceptional team of professional educators. For this reason, requests for specific teachers will not be considered.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to prioritise the holistic development of every child at Holy Rosary.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Kind regards,
Michael O'Dwyer
Principal

Round 2 of the junior chess tournament is now complete. Round 3 will commence in Week 6 after Book Week. Please check in with your child to see if and when they are playing. A lot of coordination goes into the planning of the games, so last minute lunchtime withdrawals from school for appointments etc will ensure a forfeit and end their time in the competition. If your child is sick, I will try to accommodate them if I can by switching games around within the rounds.
Parents can email admin@hrs.wa.edu.au in the morning to notify me if their child will be absent for their chess game.
This week, students have flown on Holy Roly Air and booked a multitude of adventures under the sea, in the sky and on land. “The Wobbly Bike” was our CBCA shortlisted book of the week. Next week is Book Week with our famous Parade on the courts (weather permitting) on Friday morning 22 August. After the Parade, parents are welcome to view the Book Week art in the library until 10.30am. Students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book week character using items they already have at home or can borrow or make. The focus is on ensuring the event is fun, without creating extra work or cost for families. Thank you for your support of literacy at Holy Rosary.

“Then Pop says he has the answer, he knows just what to do. ‘The secret is keep practising when learning something new.’” The Wobbly Bike by Darren McCallum and Craig Smith.
This week, our Year 6 students participated in The Kid’s Helpline’s anti bullying event. This online, live lesson supported what the students are learning in Friendology and reiterated that Holy Rosary is a school of kindness where everyone feels safe, welcome and belongs. https://kidshelpline.com.au/kids
Please see this week’s parent engagement session below for URStrong. I hope you are all enjoying the program as much as staff and students are here. Students are participating in a refresher, along with Buddy Time set for YAY week next week so they can support their peers with their excellent Friendology knowledge.
Must-haves, Deal-breakers, & Ice-Cream: It’s important that children really understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships. Through the URSTRONG program, we use a visual tool called The Friend-o-meter. Here’s an activity to do with your child to explore these important social boundaries.
Year 6 Council Groups started for Term 3. Please ask your child about the amazing work they are doing to create a school community that is inclusive and kind. As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
Mrs Butson
