No School Tomorrow due to President's Day

Dear BES Families,

Winter is just not going away! We have some coats and items in the lost and found, please remind your student to take a look. We have two more weeks of after school clubs, they will end on February 27th. Our Power Hour will continue throughout fourth quarter. Please reach out if your student could benefit from coming.

Due to the snow day last week, we are moving our growth and development presentation to this Wednesday. This is for 4th grade girls, 5th grade girls, and 5th grade boys.

Our skating unit is quickly approaching! We did have the dates incorrect on the original form, it is March 3rd through the 13th! If you require an additional form, please let me know. Otherwise, the forms will be updated to include this change.

Have a great week,

Cindy Apple, Principal

Broadmoor Dental Screens are on March 27th! Iron Horse Dental will be here to do a "quick peek" at all student's teeth. They will recommend if additional evaluation/treatment is needed. No procedures performed, this is a visual look only.

If you do not want your child to participate in the dental screening, please provide a written/email letter stating that you would like to exclude your student. Emails can be sent to prothec@usd416.org.

Mindset Minute with Mrs. McIntire Mindset Minute with Mrs. McIntire

In February we will be learning about the Passion First mindset! We will talk about finding your strengths, exploring interests & find ways to use them for good. We love to see what our students are passionate about outside of school! Please send us a photo of your student doing something they love and are passionate about! It can be a sport, a hobby, time with beloved people, etc. Photos can be sent to the classroom teacher or directly to Mrs. McIntire at mcintires@usd416.org. They will be printed and hung up on the bulletin board in the commons during the month of February!

Thank You💜

Attendance and School Calendars Attendance and School Calendars

Receive an Attendance Email from School?

If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to

miss fewer days.

When Your Child Misses School:

One week gone is approximately 7.5 hours of instruction lost in reading and in math. That doesn't include the extra time teachers provide to check for understanding and mastery of concepts so they can move on to the next concept. We see some students really struggle to get caught back up when they've missed extended time. We attempt to make it up during school hours, but your child may be required to stay after school to work with teachers or our tutors.

Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.

Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!

If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.

GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
