Dear CMIT South Elementary Families,

As we continue through Women's History Month, I want to take a moment to encourage both our students and parents to embrace the spirit of determination that drives our school community forward. In the words of NASA aerospace engineer Aprille J. Ericsson-Jackson, "Don't be afraid to be ambitious about your goals. Hard work never stops. Neither should your dreams." Her courage and perseverance remind us that with dedication and support, our students can reach extraordinary heights.

Important Schedule Information

  • This is a C-Week/Week 3, so please follow your child's C-Week/Week 3 schedule for Creative Arts (CARTS) classes.

Roaryโ€™s Trolley Volunteers - Thank You

We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the parent volunteers who helped run Roary's Trolley, our CMIT South ES school store, this past week. Your dedication made it possible for our students to spend their well-earned Roar Bucks on special items and treats. As they made their purchases, the excitement and joy on our students' faces were wonderful to see! These moments of recognition for positive behavior help reinforce our school values and create memorable experiences for our children.

We also kindly ask families to donate items to Roary's Trolley. Your contributions of small toys, school supplies, stickers, and other child-friendly items help keep our store stocked with exciting rewards that motivate our students to demonstrate positive behavior. Every donation, no matter the size, helps sustain this important initiative that brings so much joy to our students. Donations can be dropped off at the front office labeled "For Roary's Trolley." Your support makes a tremendous difference in enhancing our school community.

Fifth Grade News: Mission MISA Completeโ€”On to the Next Challenge!

Dear Families,

We have officially finished MISA testing! A huge congratulations to all of our students for their hard work, focus, and perseverance during testing. We are so proud of them! Now, itโ€™s time to shift our attention to MAP Growth and MCAP, which are coming up next month.

How Can Students Prepare?

To ensure success, students should continue practicing key skills at home. Hereโ€™s how they can strengthen their learning:

โœ… IXL & i-Ready Lessons โ€“ Students should complete lessons on skills we may not have fully covered in class to fill any gaps and reinforce their understanding.

โœ… Reading Fluency & Comprehension โ€“ Encourage students to read daily and practice making inferences about characters, events, and themes. Discussing what they read will help strengthen their critical thinking skills.

โœ… Multiplication Fluency โ€“ Mastering multiplication facts is crucial as we move into multiplying fractions. Quick recall will help students tackle more complex math problems with confidence.

What Weโ€™re Learning This Week:

๐Ÿ“– Reading Updates:

Realistic Fiction & Making Inferences

Students will explore realistic fiction stories, focusing on making inferences. They will learn to use context clues and background knowledge to โ€œread between the linesโ€ and understand deeper meanings in the text.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Social Studies Updates:

Chapter 6, Lesson 3: The Bill of Rights

We will dive into the first ten amendments of the U.S. Constitution, discussing why they were created and how they protect citizensโ€™ rights today. Students will analyze real-life scenarios and connect these rights to their daily lives.

โž— Math Updates:

Transitioning from Adding Fractions to Multiplying Fractions

We are wrapping up our unit on adding fractions and moving into multiplication. Students will begin by exploring multiplication with whole numbers and fractions before progressing to multiplying fractions by fractions.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science Updates:

MISA Testing Completed!

Our students have worked hard to show what they know on the MISA test. While testing is behind us, we will continue engaging in hands-on science activities and discussions to deepen our understanding of scientific concepts.

Thank you for your ongoing support! Letโ€™s keep up the great work as we prepare for the next round of assessments.

Best,

The Fifth Grade Team

Makers Lab:

This week in Makers Lab, we completed the seatbelt activity with the classes that hadn't finished it yet. For the classes that did, we focused on the sea turtles activity. The sea turtle activity involved watching a video and completing a worksheet where students had to draw their own sea turtle using the information from the video.

Technology:

Hello CMIT PARENTS, what a โ€œPawrifficโ€ week we had in Technology Class!

This week, our students explored Digital Dialogue, learning key concepts like servers, clients, the cloud, and databasesโ€”the essential building blocks of how information moves across the internet. Through engaging discussions and activities, they strengthened their understanding of how these technologies interact in the digital world.

To wrap up the week, some classes completed their first quiz, answering three simple questions to reinforce their learning. And of course, we couldnโ€™t end the week without some funโ€”students celebrated their hard work with a dance party!

Weโ€™re excited to keep the momentum going next week! Thank you for your continued support.

KVS is our school's dismissal tool for car riders. All parents MUST fill out their KVS number when picking up their scholar. It is imperative that numbers are entered once you reach the car line. If your scholar is a car rider, please take time to help him or her practice memorizing his or her number as this will make the dismissal process much quicker!
