SciREN-San Diego
SciREN-San Diego hopes to support you by connecting you with local researchers to help bring cutting-edge STEM activities and virtual lessons to your classrooms. To do this, we are starting a San Diego-based group as part of The Scientific Research and Education Network (SciREN). SciREN is a non-profit organization that aims to connect local STEM researchers and educators to foster the dissemination of current research and ultimately enhance the science literacy of today’s youth.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form and we will contact you with additional information: https://forms.gle/4yiVJvSJAPJXK5EV9
SciREN-San Diego events will consist of:
1) A lesson plan writing workshop for researchers to learn how to prepare their scientific ideas for the K-12 classroom and adhere to state and national educational standards. This will be virtually and ~2-3 hours. This is optional for educators who would like to help researchers draft lesson plans.
2) The main event: a researcher / educator networking event, which allows for direct interface between the researchers and educators. This will be virtual and ~2-3 hours.
3) Additional optional opportunities for virtual class visits, curriculum development, and future collaborations.
We see the need for scientist and educator collaboration, especially as many classrooms will be virtual this year. We know the value of exposure to hands-on, cutting-edge science. We anticipate the time commitment for participating to be just a few hours perusing lesson plans with local scientists. The main event is free and open to all educators and will occur online this year.
