FEBRUARY RECAP
Black History Month Celebrations
Black History Month
We had a meaningful and event-filled Black History Month at school! We kicked off the celebration at our February Eagle of the Month Assembly on Friday, February 6th, with inspiring student guest speakers and a special performance by Ms. Anderson.
Our TK–2nd grade students and 3rd–5th grade students each participated in dedicated assemblies featuring wonderful performances by Mrs. Duran’s 5th grade class and The Junkyard Crew, a well-known dance crew from San Diego. Students also had the opportunity to hear from an incredible guest panel, including Pam King from our school district’s Family and Community Engagement Dept., Paralympic athlete Lex Gillette, co-founder of SafeBallot & USD athlete Elijah Johnson and teen entrepreneur and current volunteer Devon Jones, who shared powerful messages about perseverance, leadership, and community.
Classrooms were then treated to special read-alouds from guest readers, including Community Leader Levana Bradley, neighborhood firefighters, Donatella Johnson from SafeBallot, and Charity Anderson from SDSU. It was a wonderful way to bring stories, history, and culture directly into our learning spaces.
A special thank you to our Safety Patrol for serving as school ambassadors to our guest speakers and helping introduce them to each classroom. We are grateful to all the community members who helped make our month of celebration so memorable and impactful for our students.
McTeacher's Night Success!
McTeacher's Night
Thank you to all the families who joined us for McTeacher’s Night at McDonald's! It was a wonderful evening filled with school spirit and community connection.
Our staff members had a fantastic time serving you and your families while raising funds to support our school programs. We truly appreciate everyone who came out to dine, show support, and help make the event a success.
We are grateful for our amazing school community—thank you for making a difference!
Coffee and Chat with Clarisa
Cafecito y Charla con Clarisa
We had a wonderful turnout at this February's Coffee with Clarisa! Parents had the opportunity to hear from special guest speakers, including representatives from Global Energy Services and Breanna from UniĂłn del Barrio, who shared valuable community resources and information with our families.
Participants also enjoyed a hands-on health activity where they prepared two simple and nutritious recipes: fresh fruit salad “tajin” dupe and low-salt chicken bouillon. It was a great way to promote healthy habits while building community together.
Ms. Gutierrez stopped by to remind parents about our upcoming DELAC meetings. Join us on March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st from 8:00–9:00 a.m. to stay informed about what’s happening at school, hear from special guests, and participate in our opportunity drawings. This month’s winner received a $20 Walmart gift card!
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Stop by to connect, learn, and get involved—your voice matters!

2nd Grade Zoo Fieldtrip
Our 2nd grade and 2/3 combination classes enjoyed an exciting field trip to the San Diego Zoo! Students participated in a 90-minute educational program called Habitat Heroes, which aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). During the program, students explored how plants and animals depend on their habitats to survive and learned how people can help protect ecosystems. It was a hands-on, engaging experience that brought their science learning to life and inspired our young environmental stewards!
