Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures

This school year, we're launching Strong Foundations, Soaring Futures, a districtwide initiative that builds on our district's traditions of personalized learning and preparing all students for lifelong success. All HSD schools are focused on creating campuses and classrooms where every student belongs, grows, and is supported at school and home to realize their full potential as a student and as a graduate. Data-Based Teaching Leads to Learning Gains & Continued Growth

Before looking ahead, the HSD examines where it stands now. That means reviewing the results from the 2025-26 school year to make data-based decisions about this year’s teaching strategies, materials, and professional development focus.

We recently received some encouraging numbers. In new rankings released by SchoolDigger.com, the HSD is among the top 20 school districts in Washington!

Across the district, we have redesigned our elementary literacy program, aligned all classrooms with the Danielson Framework, and analyzed assessment data to adjust instruction to student needs. Here are a few indicators from HHES that have helped to support our students' growth and our district's climb in rankings based on Smarter Balanced Assessment performance:

  • 98% of kindergarteners met or surpassed grade-level standards in the Spring 2026 letter identification assessment, a 39% increase from Fall 2025

  • 78% of first graders met or surpassed grade-level standards in the Spring 2026 decoding survey, a 38% increase from Fall 2025

  • 72% of third graders met or surpassed grade-level standards in the Spring 2026 fluency assessment, a 20% increase from Fall 2025

  • 51.7% of 3rd Graders met or exceeded grade-level ELA standards as measured by the Spring 2026 Smarter Balanced Assessment - an increase of nearly 2% over 2025 scores.

Hockinson High School Trades Building to Start Taking Shape

Exciting updates are underway regarding the HHS Career Technical Education (CTE) building similar to the one at LaCenter HS (pictured). Boundary lines have recently been updated, the new deed has been recorded, and now the HSD is waiting for Clark County to review the building and stormwater permits. The builder expects these permits to be approved in 6 weeks, with construction expected to begin in late October. The HHS CTE building, funded entirely by generous donations, will enhance the school's CTE offerings and prepare students for construction-related careers. Read more here!
