News from the Nest!
October 16, 2026
Dear Palmer River Elementary School Community,
We kicked off our week on Tuesday with a special visit from Propane Plus's very own Propane Man! Each year, our students look forward to participating in the annual Propane Plus coloring contest for a chance to win pumpkins from Araujo's in Dighton. Propane Man always brings plenty of excitement as he helps us launch the contest, and this year was no exception! Our students loved his visit, and we can't wait to see all of their colorful and creative entries!
We are so grateful to Propane Plus and Araujo's for continuing this fun fall tradition with our PRES students!
Speaking of fall fun, we hope to see everyone at the PTSA's annual Trunk or Treat event on Saturday night! This is always such a fun evening for our school community, and we look forward to seeing our PRES Falcons and their families enjoying the festivities! More info can be found below!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Fall Bus Evacuation Notification
Our required fall school bus evacuation drills will take place on Wednesday, October 21, as buses arrive at school in the morning. These drills provide students with an opportunity to practice safely exiting a school bus in the event of an emergency. Your child may mention participating in this exercise when they return home. Please know that this is a routine safety drill designed to help students become familiar with bus evacuation procedures and ensure they are prepared in the event of an emergency. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe!
ACE Program is Back!
We are excited to once again offer our ACE (Activity Clubs for Enrichment) Program before and after school for students in Grades 2, 3, and 4!
ACE provides students with an opportunity to explore new interests, learn new skills, and make new friends in an environment that promotes acceptance, learning, enrichment, and camaraderie.
Students in Grades 2–4 came home this week with information about this year’s club offerings and registration.
📢 IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE:
Please note that there has been a slight change to our program start date. All ACE programs will now begin on Monday, October 19th, rather than Monday, October 5th.
Space is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis once a completed registration form and payment are received.
We are looking forward to another exciting year of learning, creating, exploring, and having fun through ACE!

Reminder: Emergency Medications for the School Year
This is a friendly reminder that all emergency medications—including those used as needed (such as inhalers, EpiPens, or Valtoco)—must have current medication orders on file for the school year. Please note that medication orders expire at the end of each school year and must be renewed annually.
At this time, I am still missing many emergency medications and orders. If you have not yet sent these in, please do so as soon as possible.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Health Screening
We are continuing health screenings this month. If a child fails vision or hearing, I will follow up and re-screen prior to sending notes home.
Medical Requirements for 3rd and 4th Grade Students
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Palmer River Elementary School District mandate that each student have a current physical examination on file with the school nurse before entering 4th grade.
For third-grade students, physicals submitted during this school year will meet the requirements.
For fourth-grade students, please submit them as soon as possible.
Documents can be faxed to (508) 252-5110, emailed to me at eferreira@drregional.org, or enclosed in a sealed envelope and sent in with your child, as per your preference.
Spare Clothing
Accidents happen! All children are recommended to keep a spare set of clothes at school. This includes a shirt, pants, underpants, and socks. Spare clothing will be stored in a safe location in the classroom and returned at the end of the year. I can also store them in the nurse's office if needed.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
The Pie Fundraiser Is Now Closed!
The PTSA extended the ordering window through today to give everyone a little extra time to purchase their pies. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept any additional orders after today.
We apologize for any inconvenience and sincerely thank everyone who supported this fundraiser! Your generosity and participation are greatly appreciated!
This section will feature information about upcoming community events and activities. Check back each week for new events and updates!
