26-27 NPHS Technology Updates
Important Technology Information for the 25-26 School Year
Student Procedures For Technology Support
District Issue Chromebook Is A Requirement
As we begin the school year, we want to remind all students and families that access to technology is an important part of daily learning at Newbury Park High School. Teachers regularly use digital resources, applications, and online instructional materials as part of classroom instruction.
All NPHS Students:
- Should bring their school-issued Chromebook to school every day, fully charged and ready to use.
- Should make charging their Chromebook each night part of their regular school routine.
- Students who arrive without their Chromebook or with an uncharged device may not be able to fully participate in classroom learning activities.
Please help us start the year strong by making sure your student is prepared each day with their charged, school-issued Chromebook. Thank you for your partnership and support as we work together to help every Panther be Present, Caring, Resilient, and Responsible.
Important Reminders From CVUSD Technology Services.
- The Chromebook Loan Agreement and Chromebook Accidental Damage Protection information will be in Q this year as part of the Annual Update in English and Spanish. Access to these updates will start Monday, August 3rd. Copies of all Chromebook-related documentation in both English and Spanish are available on the Technology Services website.
- All students must use a school-issued Chromebook.
Chromebook Accidental Damage Protection Plan Information
- The school district and Technology Services will be offering Chromebook Damage Protection (CDP)
- Plans will remain priced at $25 per student but each plan will now cover ONE incident of device replacement due to loss, theft or unrepairable damage per year.
- The plan covers repairs for damage such as cracked screens throughout the year. ADP coverage will be available for purchase until December 1st, 2026.
- Technology Services will again utilize MySchoolBucks to process online payments for the Chromebook ADP Program. Parents can use their existing account OR create an account, add their student(s), and make payments via credit card or electronic check. This system will also be used to invoice families for lost or damaged devices not covered under the ADP program.
- The enrollment window to purchase CDP plans for the 2026-27 school year will open on August 1st, 2026. Links to MySchoolBucks, an overview of the CDP program, parent registration process and the claims process will be posted on the Technology Services website at that time.
- You can access the CDP information by clicking on the links below.

Student Devices: Reminders To Take Proper Care of the Devices
Below are some best practice recommendations to keep your Laptop or PC working at optimum performance. At the end of the day please complete the following steps:
1) Close all documents and folders daily.
2) Close all web browsers daily (Google Chrome, Edge, Firefox). Google Chrome is the recommended Browser for all District needs. Classlink/Canvas, Webmail, ZOOM, & Q.
3) Log off or Sign Out your device daily. This is important.
4) Shut down the device. Twice a week. Open-Start (lower-left corner Windows Flag)-Power-Hold down the shift key-Shutdown.
5) Please leave the system turned off for at least one minute.
6) Turn On the system.
7) Should the system require updates and/or a reboot. Verify that the AC adapter is connected.
Please do not close the lid and walk away from the Laptop, Chromebook, or PC. This will place the device in sleep mode. We have seen connections fail on occasion.
Lightspeed Parent Portal
As part of CVUSD’s continued commitment to digital safety, responsible technology use, and family partnership, families will have access to the Lightspeed Parent Portal beginning this month.
The Lightspeed Parent Portal is an optional resource that provides parents and guardians with greater visibility and control over their student’s activity on a district-issued Chromebook when the device is at home or off the district network. Through the portal, families can:
- Receive weekly summaries of web activity
- Block access to specific websites while the Chromebook is at home or off the district network
- Pause internet browsing on the device when needed
- Use additional tools to help establish healthy and responsible technology habits at home
CVUSD successfully piloted the Lightspeed Parent Portal with families this past spring and received positive feedback about the additional information and tools it provides.
Beginning the week of August 24, all families will receive an email directly from Lightspeed Systems with instructions for enrolling in the Parent Portal. Enrollment is completely optional, and families who choose to participate can create an account and begin accessing available features and reports.
For additional information, parent resources, and frequently asked questions, please visit the CVUSD Lightspeed Parent Portal website.
We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help our students develop safe, responsible, and healthy technology habits.
