Open House - Monday, August 17th

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at our Open House on Monday, August 17! More than 98% of Cedar Bluffs Elementary students and families attended—an incredible turnout that reflects the strong sense of community within our school. Across the district, nearly 94% of students and families participated in the evening. This outstanding level of participation is another reminder of what makes Cedar Bluffs such a special place—a community where students and families feel welcomed, valued, and connected.

Picture Day Information

Picture Day is Wednesday, September 2nd!

We are excited to capture this year’s school pictures. Please note that all picture orders will be placed online this year.

Here’s how the process will work:

📷 Picture Day: Wednesday, September 2nd
📬 Proof & Ordering Information: A proof will be sent home with your student from Cedar Bluffs Public Schools.
⏰ Please allow 3–4 weeks for proofs to be sent home.
💻 The proof will include information and instructions on how to view and order pictures online.
🛍️ Once you receive the proof, you can choose which pictures and packages you would like to purchase and place your order online.
🏠 Pictures can be shipped directly to your home, so you won’t need to wait for them to be sent home from school.
No orders or money are needed on Picture Day. Please wait for the proof and ordering information to come home.

Communicating After-School Plan Changes

If your child’s after-school plans change during the school day, please be sure to message both your child’s classroom teacher and the elementary office. This helps ensure that everyone involved in dismissal is aware of the change and that your child gets to the correct location safely. Whenever possible, please communicate changes as early in the day as you can, as messages sent near dismissal time may be difficult for staff to see and communicate before students leave. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe, organized, and efficient!

Kids First After School Program Update

Beginning Tuesday, September 8, the Kids First After School Program (ASP) will operate out of the Cedar Bluffs Auditorium. At the end of the school day, ASP staff members will walk students from the elementary school to the auditorium.

Families will pick up their children from the auditorium at the regularly scheduled pick-up times. The 5:30 p.m. bus will continue to run as scheduled.

If you have any questions about this change or the Kids First After School Program, please contact Jenni Kiefer at jenni.kiefer@cbwildcats.org.

5th Grade Wildcat Band Night

5th Grade Wildcat Band Night will take place in the band room on Friday, September 18, from 3:30–5:00 p.m. and is open to all current 5th grade students and their families. Students will have the opportunity to try different instruments and find one that may be a good fit. A representative from Dietze Music in Omaha will also be available for families interested in renting an instrument, and we have school-owned instruments available as well. All 5th graders are encouraged to attend—even if you are not sure about joining band! Come try an instrument, learn more about band, and see what you think! If you are unable to attend, please email Mrs. Rehn at jennifer.rehn@cbwildcats.org for additional information. We can’t wait to see you there!

Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for student success. Being present each day helps students stay on track academically, build positive relationships, and develop consistent learning habits.

To support student success and comply with Nebraska attendance requirements, families will receive an attendance letter after 5 unexcused absences. An unexcused absence is any absence without a doctor’s note or one that is not the result of the school sending a student home due to a fever or vomiting.

After 10 unexcused absences, an additional attendance letter will be sent home. A meeting with the student’s parents/guardians, teachers, and administration will also be scheduled to discuss attendance concerns and develop a plan to improve attendance. At that time, Saunders County ARRIVE will also be contacted.

After 15 unexcused absences, another attendance letter will be sent, and a meeting will be scheduled with the ARRIVE Coordinator to provide additional support and address continued attendance concerns.

After 20 unexcused absences, another attendance letter will be sent, and the county attorney in the family’s county of residence will be contacted.

We understand that circumstances may arise that impact a student’s ability to attend school regularly. Our goal throughout this process is to partner with families, identify barriers to attendance, and provide support whenever possible. If your family is experiencing challenges that are affecting your child’s attendance, please reach out to the school so we can work together to help your student be successful.

Book Blast Is Back!

On Monday, August 24, Cedar Bluffs Elementary students kicked off their participation in the Book Blast program! Last year, every student received at least three brand-new books through this exciting program, and we are thrilled to continue providing opportunities for students to build their home libraries and develop a lifelong love of reading.

During the first week of Book Blast, more than 75% of our students completed their Treasure Map, making them eligible to receive a variety of fun prizes! We want to extend a huge thank you to our families, friends, and community members who have supported our students throughout the Book Blast program. Your generosity and encouragement help put more books into the hands of our students and make this program such a success!

Wildcat Savers Branch

Once again this year, we are excited to partner with First State Bank Nebraska in Cedar Bluffs to offer students the opportunity to save money while learning the importance of financial responsibility.

The Wildcat Savers Branch is one of 73 student savings branches across Nebraska. Last year alone, 6,543 students participating in the program saved an impressive $448,698!

Next week, your child will bring home a letter with additional information about the program. Families who would like their child to participate will need to sign and return the form to “open” a Wildcat Savers account. Beginning in October, Kindergarten through 5th grade students will have opportunities to make deposits throughout the school year and continue building their savings during their time at Cedar Bluffs Elementary.

When students graduate from 5th grade, they will receive a check for the total amount they have saved. This provides a great opportunity for families to open an official savings account in their child’s name and continue building positive financial habits for the future.
