Dear ELC Families, Dear ELC Families,

The 2023 - 2024 school year is DONE!

Your children have grown in so many different ways this year - it's hard to describe! Not only are they taller and wearing bigger shoes - they are able to do things they couldn't do 10 months ago -watching them grow and mature is the highlight of every teacher's year. I'd like to list all of the different ways the children have grown but the list would be too long and I know I would miss something....but please know, we saw the important things - the way a child approached his/her work, the way the children are now cooperatively playing in groups, they way that they help each other if someone needs a hand....it's an incredible privilege to be able to see.

We look forward to seeing most of you again on June 10th for ELC Summer Camp - ADVENTURE AWAITS!

Thank you for letting us be a part of your child's education!

Vestibular Considerations for Children with Hearing Differences

June 5th, 2024 at 5:00pm

There will be a presentation, brought to you by Karen C. Hendrick, AUD, CCC-A, that will discuss vestibular hypofunction in children with sensorineural hearing loss, including one of the highest risk groups: children with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). Developmentally appropriate gross motor screens will be shown to help providers identify children at risk for vestibular disorders, with a focus on the birth to six year age range. Modifications for diagnostic vestibular testing in the pediatric population will be described.

ELC Healthy Student/Staff Protocol ELC Healthy Student/Staff Protocol

It is the responsibility of our entire community to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and families. ELC families must support the following guidelines in order to promote the health and well-being of our entire community. Please contact Catherine with any questions.

All children and staff who meet any of the criteria below should stay home or will be sent home. We understand this may be inconvenient, but it is necessary to minimize exposure to the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. Staying home when sick or keeping your child home is a responsibility we take very seriously. Please DO NOT send your children to school if they are showing any signs of illness. This is more important now than ever before.

● Fever or chills

● Cough

● Sore throat

● Congestion or runny nose

● Nausea or vomiting

● Diarrhea

● Red or inflamed eyes or discharge from eyes or ears

● Any contagious disease, such as chicken pox

● Any contagious bacterial infections such as strep throat

Parent Responsibilities and when your child can return to school:

All parents are encouraged to be on the alert for signs of illness in their children and are required to keep them at home when they are sick.

Any child with a temperature of 100.4 or above will not be permitted to attend school and will be sent home. Your child can return to school once he/she has been fever-free without the use of any fever reducing medication for 24 hours.

Any child who has been vomiting or had diarrhea should stay home for 24 hours after the stomach distress has stopped.

Summer & McKinney-Vento Students

If your child is in the McKinney-Vento Program at FSDB (homeless or in transition), here are a few things to consider during the summer months:

  • ENRICHMENT: Each homeless/in transition student will be bringing home some STEM enrichment kits to work on over the long summer. This is enabled through the Title I part A grant.

  • FOOD: The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services offers a “Summer BreakSpot” which provides nutritious meals at no cost to children under age 18 while school is out for the summer. It operates at schools, organizations, and govt. entities such as parks and libraries. Please follow this link to see the map of where the BreakSpots operate near you: Summer Food Service Program / Nutrition Programs / Food & Nutrition / Home - Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (fdacs.gov). Every Florida school district has summer food programs for students in need, including rural locations. Please contact your local district to find out what they are offering if you need food or snacks for your child. Finally, to access local food banks, follow this link: Food Bank List | Food UsLowCostHousing

  • CAMPS: There are many fun & academic summer camps operating in Florida throughout the summer. If your MV child is interested, contact the school MV rep and we will find out if the fees can be waived:
