Permenter Longhorn Check In
October 2-6, 2023
VATRE Community Meeting 10/5 @ 6:30pm at Highlands Elementary School (131 Sims)
Please join CHISD Board Trustee Carma Morgan for a special in-person meeting to learn more about the proposition on the November ballot to increase teacher pay and add 9 police officers to support district campuses!
Retaining our teachers makes a difference. A qualified teacher has the most significant impact on a child’s academic success. With the passage of the VATRE, CHISD will be able to offer competitive teacher salaries and retain the best teachers
Notes from the Principal:
- Our counselors are developing intentional support for our scholars. Please provide input by completing this parent needs assessment survey. This will help them to develop programming that also address the concerns of our parent partners. The survey is found here.
- CHISD's Homecoming Week is October 2nd - 6th. There are themed days and lessons associated with each day during that week. All scholars and staff may wear jeans each day this week as long as they are participating in the district themes and wearing the appropriate college themed items. The theme for each day is included in a graphic within this weekly newsletter. More information about CHISD Homecoming can be found here.
- October 5th and 6th are dates for fall parent conferences. Please contact your scholar's teachers, if you would like to schedule a conference. Please know their time slots will fill up quickly and this is a first come, first serve availability. If you are unable to schedule a conference to occur on either of those dates, you can still contact your scholar's teachers to request a different date most likely during their planning period during another week.
- October 6th and 9th are student holidays. We will welcome their return, Tuesday, October 10th.
- Please make note that all middle school scholars must wear their ID badges to all CHISD athletic functions and be accompanied by their parents/guardians. This does not include one adult accompanying different scholars that they do not serve as their parent/guardian.
- If your scholar started the school year with an unnatural hair color (blue, pink, bright red, orange, etc.) they have until October 5th to correct it and get the color within CHISD dress code.
- Our first PTA meeting of the school year is this Thursday, October 5th at 6:00 PM. For more information, feel free to contact our PTA Present Mrs. Hurd @ mrshurd3rd@gmail.com.
- There has been a revision to our standard of dress for scholars each week. Please make note of the change regarding Fridays. Scholars can now wear college/university tops on Fridays with jeans as another option beyond CHISD spirit attire.
- CHISD has added a Voter-Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) to the November 7th Ballot. Please click here to learn amore information about the proposed VATRE and important voter registration guidelines and deadlines.
- September 15th - October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition to a Hispanic Heritage Month program scheduled for October 12th, we will be providing weekly lessons that increase awareness for the many positive contributions and significant history of Hispanic Heritage Month.
- Families are financially responsible for lost or damaged Chromebooks. Insurance is available and worth the investment. Click here to learn more information and sign up for insurance for your scholar's Chromebook.
- It is imperative that all scholars bring their charged Chromebooks with them daily. We need all scholars present, on time, focused and committed to their personal scholastic achievement.
Faithfully,
Dr. Lemons
