FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Stallion Families,
Here we are already in September! Classroom routines and procedures are fully in place, and high-quality, personalized, small-group instruction is happening across our building every day.
Our i-Ready Inform results are coming in, and our teachers are using Friday morning planning time to analyze data strategically. These dedicated mornings allow us to tailor our instruction to help every student reach or exceed grade-level benchmarks, and we look forward to sharing and celebrating that growth with you throughout the year. Again, we greatly appreciate your support in making this important professional development time possible. As a reminder for Friday mornings, the first bell rings at 9:20 AM, and the cafeteria opens for breakfast at 9:10 AM.
Thank you to everyone who made it out for Cold Stone Night—we had a fantastic turnout, and it was wonderful getting to visit with so many of our families!
Looking ahead, our 6th graders are heading off to Outdoor Education next week, and we are so excited for them to have this classic experience. For our 5th grade families, rest assured your students will not miss out before moving on to middle school next year; they will be attending Outdoor Ed this spring, which will mark the start of this continuing tradition for future 5th-grade classes.
On the safety front, we are wrapping up our beginning-of-the-year routines and will practice our Secure and Shelter-in-Place drills this week. As a reminder, because there is no staff supervision before or after school, students should not be playing on the grounds or hanging out on school property unless accompanied by an adult.
We are so lucky to partner with such caring and involved families. Thank you for everything you do to support our students and staff—wishing you all a fantastic start to September!
Warmly, Jodee DeRose - Principal
FROM MUSIC
Choir is Back at CTE!
Mr. Halley would like to invite you to join the choir at Cherokee Trail Elementary. The choir program here at CTE is booming and last year it had over 80 members! All choir students get a choir shirt and the opportunity to perform the national anthem before a Colorado Rockies game-they get to be on the field at Coors Field for this! We also have two big concerts in the CTE gym for friends and family in the winter and spring semester.
The choir is open for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade and meets in the morning from 7:40-8:15 Tuesdays and Thursdays. You only need to attend one day a week but you can attend both if possible. You can find the dates for the rehearsals and performances for our winter semester HERE.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Halley ghalley@dcsdk12.org and thank you for supporting the arts here at Cherokee Trail Elementary.

BE EPICER @ CTE
At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially.
They are:
ENTHUSIASM * PERSEVERANCE * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * EMPATHY * RESPECT
Read more on the EPICER page!
In September we will be focusing on the EPICER trait of ENTHUSIASM! These are the indicators:
* I show a positive attitude at all times
* I am eager to learn
* I show active engagement throughout my day
We’re excited to share some changes to our EPICER program this year! Practicing the EPICER traits help our students grow into kind, responsible, and caring members of our school and community.
This year, we’re connecting EPICER more closely to our Stallion spirit! Students will receive Stallion Tickets when they are caught demonstrating one of the EPICER traits. Each week, tickets will be randomly drawn to recognize students who are demonstrating positive character traits.
Each month, students will focus on a different EPICER trait through lessons and activities. Classroom teachers will also choose one student who exemplifies that month’s trait. These students will receive a special Student of the Month certificate, and their picture will be featured on the TV in our school lobby so our whole school community can celebrate them!
We’re excited to celebrate our Stallions not only for what they learn, but also for who they are and how they treat others!
