Save the Date - "Our Town" by CPHS Theatre
- To expand opportunities for students in the theatre program, CPHS Theatre is performing an additional play this semester. The classic Thornton Wilder play "Our Town" will debut April 10-12. Stay tuned for ticket sales online.
- Our Town follows the everyday lives of the residents of Grover’s Corners, a small New Hampshire town in the early 1900s. Through three acts, Daily Life, Love and Marriage, and Death; the play reveals how ordinary moments hold deep meaning. Ultimately, it reminds audiences that people often fail to appreciate life while they’re living it.
Some very special guests from a nearby senior facility visited Jerry Ross kindergarteners as part of a new partnership. Seniors and students spent time reading together. Students were able to practice their reading aloud with a captive audience - such an important skill for our earliest learners!
8th grade Honors Bio students from Taft and Wheeler Middle Schools attend the Healthcare Expo at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Students had an opportunity to learn more about various healthcare related careers by speaking with experts and participating in hands-on learning. Thank you to the many local partners who were available to speak with our students!
Congratulations to CPHS for once again being named to the AP Honor Roll! Last year, more than 1,600 AP exams were administered at CPHS and students earning a score of 3 or more for college credit increased by nearly 38%. CPHS offers more than 20 AP courses, along with more than 40 dual credit options. Combined, these courses can save families thousands of dollars in college tuition.
February 28 was Rare Disease Day. Across our district, we have students from pre-k to age 22 who live with a rare disease. They are supported daily by our incredibly talented and dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, therapists, administrators, transportation team, and more. Rare Disease Day is about advocating for equitable access to diagnosis, treatment, care, and social opportunities, including for our students right here at home.
- Rare diseases affect about 5% of the population, and about 72% of those conditions are genetic. Among genetic rare diseases, 70% begin in childhood.
- There are more than 6,000 identified rare diseases among approximately 300 million people worldwide.
- Visit www.rarediseaseday.org for more information.
