Summer Health Tips

Parent-Guardian

I hope this FYI finds you enjoying the beautiful (and hot!) Michigan summer weather!

As we continue through the summer months, I wanted to share a few health and wellness reminders that may be helpful as you prepare for the upcoming school year.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, this is a great time for families to:

Schedule annual physical examinations and dental appointments.
Update required immunizations, if applicable.
Obtain completed medical action plans and medication authorization forms for students with ongoing health conditions.

Forms are available in the main office.

Refill prescription medications that may be needed during the school year.

Nurse's Reminder

If your child has asthma, diabetes, seizures, severe allergies, or any other medical condition requiring care during school hours, please plan to submit updated health care provider orders and medication authorization forms before the first day of school. Having current medical information helps ensure we can provide safe and appropriate care from the first day students return.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the district nurse Ms. Vera Ferrell RN or Office staff Ms. Smith (Dailey Elementary) with your concerns.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the health and well-being of our students. I wish you and your family a safe, healthy, and enjoyable summer!

Have a wonderful day!

Because Michigan is bearing the brunt of the outbreak with over 2,600 confirmed cases, local precautions are particularly important. To protect yourself, follow these guidelines:

Skip the bagged greens: Avoid pre-washed, pre-packaged salad kits and mixes.
Buy whole heads: Opt for whole heads of lettuce.
Peel and wash: Discard the outer two or three layers of leaves and thoroughly wash the remaining inner leaves under running water.
Monitor for symptoms: Symptoms of Cyclospora can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to appear. Look out for frequent watery diarrhea, severe fatigue, loss of appetite, bloating, and nausea.
