A Message from Mrs. Milligan
April Recap
We are incredibly proud of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders for their determination and hard work! They set goals, stayed focused, and worked diligently to complete their State Assessments.
While ELA results will be available in May, we were excited to receive an early look at Math scores. I’m happy to share that grades 4 and 5 performed above the state average! Even more impressive, Grade 4 exceeded the West Fargo School District average as well.
Way to go to our dedicated staff and these hardworking learners—your efforts truly paid off!
A special thank you to our PTA for providing healthy snacks, and to our families for supporting students with proper rest, hydration, and limited technology at home. Your partnership makes a difference!
May Upcomings
We have many meaningful Service Learning Projects taking place with our learners throughout April and May!
Our students have been making a positive impact in the community:
- Kindergarten visited the Ronald McDonald House Charities
- 3rd grade spent time at GiGi's Playhouse
- 4th grade partnered with student-athletes at North Dakota State University to create vision boards with Bison basketball players
- 5th grade showed appreciation by creating gift baskets for NICU nurses
We’re not done yet! In May:
- 2nd grade will visit Landon's Light
- 1st grade will collect and donate dog supplies to Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue
We are so grateful for the generosity of our families. Your donations help provide these valuable opportunities for our learners to serve and connect with their community.
As we look ahead, our last day of school will be May 21st. Please be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher in advance regarding any absences due to sports, vacations, or moving. We want the chance to say a proper goodbye and celebrate all of our learners before summer begins!
A Special Message from Mrs. Petersen
Dear Freedom Families,
I wanted to take a moment to share an update with you. After much reflection, I have made the decision to move from my role as Assistant Principal back into the classroom.
This was not an easy decision, but it is one rooted in my desire to prioritize my family. At this time, I feel strongly called to focus on my number one goal—raising kind and loving humans. This change will allow me to be more present for my own children while continuing to do the work I love.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside your children and to be part of the Freedom community. It has been a privilege to support their growth, celebrate their successes, and partner with you throughout this journey. I will truly miss this role, but I am excited to continue working with educators in a different capacity and to keep inspiring learners within West Fargo.
Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and the care you show our school community each day. Being part of this team has meant so much to me, and I look forward to continuing to support students in a new way.
Congratulations!
We would like to announce Ms. Megan Kratcha has accepted the
position as Assistant Principal at Freedom Elementary School starting in July.

a bachelor's degree from Valley City State University, and is obtaining her
Elementary Principal Credential from North Dakota State University. She

2008, she joined West Fargo Public Schools as a teacher before moving into

Milligan said after interviewing and selecting Ms.Kratcha.
Ms. Kratcha will begin her new role this July.

West Fargo Public Schools Medication Administration Policy (ACBD- AP) requires a parent or guardian to pick up any unused medications at the completion of the school year, when discontinued or expired or if a learner has transferred to another school. Medications will not be released to a learner, except for those authorized to self-carry their medication. When medications are not picked up by the deadline, they must be destroyed.
Medications will be destroyed if not picked up by the end of day on May 21, 2026 unless alternate arrangements have been made with your school nurse or building designee prior to that deadline.
If your learner is attending summer school at another location and will need their medication(s) during that time, the parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to bring the medication to that location. Any medication(s) not picked up by end of summer school will be destroyed unless alternate arrangements have been made with the designated summer school nurse or building designee.
Kindergarten Pre-Registration
We are excited to welcome another class of kindergartners in the fall! Make sure to complete your preregistration forms by May 15th!
