Free Heart Screening

One in 300 young people have a heart condition that puts them at risk for sudden cardiac arrest, which is also the leading cause of death for student athletes. To support early detection, in collaboration with UC Davis Health, free heart screenings for students and young adults (aged 12-25) will be offered on Sunday, March 22nd at Rio Americano High School. These screenings can help identify potential heart conditions and provide families with valuable peace of mind.

Registration is open now at www.kylejtaylor.org/screenings 4540 American River Drive, Sacramento 95864.

Youth Shape the Future - 2026 Youth Leadership Academy

YLA is an opportunity for high school students (grades 9-12) to learn about the roles of local and regional government, including regional planning, transportation, sustainability, land use, and the interaction with local non-profits and communities. Today’s leaders and decision makers across all sectors are planning and making decisions for the future. Those who are most impacted by those decisions are our youth. Often youth do not have the knowledge on how to inform policymakers, decision-makers, and elected bodies like SACOG, or their local elected officials. YLA is focused on youth empowerment to create pathways for young people to understand local and regional government and learn about career opportunities in public service.

The academy brings together students from Sutter, Yuba, Yolo, El Dorado, Placer, and Sacramento counties. This approach provides a rare opportunity for students to connect with peers from across the six-county region, meet and hear from their local and state elected officials and community leaders.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, March 1 at 11:59 p.m. Students can apply at sacog.org/youth.

Artist of the Week

The artist of the week is Geraldo Oceguera Ayala! The Tropikettle

Student Statement: I gained a inspiration while flipping through one of Mr. Bills ceramics books in the library with a similar idea. I sketched the entire project and labeled each part of the project with numbers on how i would build it in order. My piece is unique because it has a palm tree as a handle at the same time it's a kettle, the coconuts are all original and the came, used wire to connect the legs of the camel to the base.
