Clifford H. Smart Middle School runner wins Detroit Free Press Kids Marathon ๐ฅ
Clifford H. Smart Middle Schoolโs Tyler Medrano claimed the kidsโ marathon title in the 48th annual Detroit Free Press Marathon.
Medrano, who finished runner-up last year, crossed the finished line first after clocking an impressive 5:29 mile. The kidโs marathon is completed in two phases: 25 miles beforehand and then they run the final mile downtown to finish the race.
โIt felt great to win this year,โ said Medrano. โI have been motivated all year to finish first since I was runner up at last yearโs race. Iโve stayed focused on working hard and improving my time.โ
Student-Athlete and Coach Retreat ๐๐โฝ
Student-athletes and coaches from across from all three high schools came together on Tuesday at the Outdoor Education Center for a day focused on fostering a mutual understanding by identifying and appreciating each otherโs wants and needs, with a focus on:
- Team Cohesion โ Building trust, communication, and unity.
- PlayerโCoach Relationships โ Strengthening respect, trust, and open dialogue.
Our student-athletes and coaches participated in team building activities, as well as talked openly about the playerโcoach relationship, how to build trust, and what it takes to create strong team unity. Everyone left with a deeper understanding of what it means to lead, to listen and to grow together as a team.
