Hello Lincoln Community,

Happy Friday! We hope this finds you well and that you've had a fantastic past few days! Our week here was full of gratitude and happiness as we enjoyed our final days together before Thanksgiving week. We hope you enjoy the pictures, as well as descriptions of some of the highlights.

Super Hero Day and the PBIS Assembly: Today students and staff came dressed as various Super Heroes for our November Spirit Day. What Fun! We also enjoyed a November PBIS Assembly where we celebrated, danced, competed, and had another visit by the Dolphin. At the assembly we recognized students with excellent attendance, celebrated students who won SWIM Awards, had Staff Shoutouts, and saw the Dolphin inspire our dancing. The competition included a balloon-train race with three competitors from each grade level. We danced to songs Cha Cha Slide and Happy and our student council helped throughout. This assembly was a fun way to finish off an incredible month.

Next Week: We have no school for students next week. On Monday and Tuesday (11/25 & 11/26), our staff at Lincoln and staff throughout the Woodburn School District will participate in two-days of professional development. This will be the second year of the annual WSD hosted "Learning Together, Better Together" conference.

School Restarts After Break: On Monday, December 2, we'll resume school with three five-day weeks in a row. During those weeks we get to have a visit from the Woodburn SD Board, we'll have a Site Council meeting, a choir performance, picture retake day, Winter Fest, and finish with another fun Spirit Day and PBIS Assembly. Also throughout those weeks we'll have a blanket and hat drive to help those in need. The final school day before winter break will be on Friday, December 20, and then school will resume once again on January 8, 2025.

Questions: Please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Feeling Important

After reviewing our sense of belonging survey, we've noticed that it would be good to help our students better understand how important each of them are here at Lincoln. With that in mind, during a recent leadership meeting, our team discussed what the concept of feeling important may mean for our students. Afterwards, we promoted this sense of importance by reviewing the following questions with them.

  1. What do you understand by being important?
  2. What makes you feel important in school?
  3. Can you share a time when you felt valued by a teacher or classmate?
  4. What changes would you like to see to help you feel more important here?

We then collected student insights and feedback to inform us as we continue to create and refine the strategies we use to support our students effectively.

Morning Affirmation

Also, after reviewing our data, we identified a strategy to help our students grow in their self-management skills. Starting last Monday, alongside saying the Pledge of Allegiance, we began to incorporate daily affirmations into our routine.

  • I am amazing
  • I am smart
  • I am kind
  • I am important
  • I am loved
  • I will do my best today!

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance

zoom_out_map

This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.

Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!

So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
