Principal's Message

Welcome back, Dewey Families! I hope you all enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving break. As we begin the second trimester, we’re heading into a joyful and busy three weeks before the winter holiday. As you can see in this week’s Tiger Tale, December is filled with exciting learning experiences and community events.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible PFO for sponsoring the Crocker Art Ark last month. Our students and families truly enjoyed exploring a variety of art forms—what a wonderful opportunity for our school!

Our PFO is also hard at work preparing for our annual Santa’s Night family event. Last year, they started a special new tradition of supporting a charitable cause, and we are excited to continue it this year. We are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children ages 5–12 to support families within our Dewey/SJUSD community. Donations may be dropped off in the front hallway all next week. Thank you for helping to brighten the holidays for families right here in our community.

Speaking of PFO, our December meeting is next Monday, and all are welcome to attend. We would love to see you there!

Lastly, while this time of year is filled with celebrations and activities, we want to gently remind families of the importance of daily attendance—every day truly does count. Your partnership in helping students arrive at school ready to learn makes a tremendous difference.

Thank you for all you do to make Dewey such a special place. We are looking forward to a wonderful second trimester together!

Warm regards,

Sabrina Parsley, principal

Attendance - Every Day Counts!

Thank you for your continued partnership this fall. As we head into the next three weeks before the holiday break, every day of attendance truly makes a difference in your child’s learning and our school community.

Our Daily Attendance Goal is 96%—check out our attendance board in the office hallway to see how we’re doing and to celebrate our progress together!

We do have some rainy days in the forecast, so planning a little extra time in the morning can help ensure a smooth arrival. We appreciate all you do to support your child being at school each day.

Student and Family Wellness Support

If your child or family is in need of support, we are here to help. Our school social worker can assist with a wide range of needs—from social-emotional support for students to connecting families with community resources and services.

If you would like support, please click on the Family School Social Worker Support Form to submit a request, and we will follow up with you promptly. Family School Social Worker Support Form

Parking Update

Are you interested in having your own dedicated parking spot at Dewey? Each spring, our PFO auctions off a few coveted spots as part of their annual fundraiser—and two families won those reserved spaces last year!

As a friendly reminder, those designated spots are for the auction winners. We kindly ask all other families and staff to use the remaining parking lot spaces or park along the street.

Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation!

Kids Only Shoppe- Donations Needed!

Friday, December 12th (during Santa’s Night from 5:00-8:00 PM), 6th grade students will be hosting the Kids Only Shoppe for Dewey’s TK-5th grade students. This is a fundraiser for 6th graders to earn money for their overnight science field trip to Westminster Woods in the spring.

What is the Kids Only Shoppe?

· We collect gently used items to resell.

· A “shoppe” is set up in a classroom and is open during Santa’s Night, with items priced for around $1-$10 each.

· The 6th grade students help TK-5th grade students shop for Christmas gifts for their family members.

· The 6th graders also help them wrap the gifts.

· No adults are allowed in the Kids Only Shoppe.

We need to collect stuff! Please drop your donations in the bins outside the office throughout November.

· Gently used items you don't want or need that still have life left

· Household items like frames and candles

· Toys and books (please nothing broken or missing parts)

· The more, the merrier...

· NO clothing or stuffed animals, please!

· Now. Send it in now.

· We are also in need of gift wrap! Paper, tissue, bags, and tape. These items do not have to be new, and all is appreciated!

· Thank you!

Use RaiseRight for the Holidays!

The holiday season is the perfect time to use RaiseRight, especially if you’re planning to give gift cards as presents. Whether you’re buying for teachers, family members, coworkers, or friends, purchasing gift cards through RaiseRight earns money for Dewey at no extra cost to you.

This month, Mrs. Ruswinkle’s class has raised $53 in November, showing how quickly earnings can add up when families and teachers participate. Thank you to everyone who is using RaiseRight to support their classrooms.

If you haven’t started yet, it’s easy to join, and holiday gifting is a great place to begin. Every purchase helps our students and teachers.
