Congratulations on completion of your first FULL week in school together! As a reminder, next week on Wednesday, September 17, we will not have any school, due to Professional Development. In addition, we will be celebrating Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 16th. Families, as September continues to get rolling along, students should continue to be reminded of the 3 Bs of Behavior at Browning:

SMART Moves in sixth grade begins on September 24th. Our sessions will be held in the afternoon.

As the weather continues to stay warm and beautiful outside, we will do our very best to make sure we our OUTSIDE for recess. That being said, just a gentle reminder about our Browning Bears 3 Bs:

• Be RESPECTFUL
• Be RESPONSIBLE
• Be KIND

Just a few reminders:

• Shoes must remain on at all times for safety purposes.
• Hands are always to ourselves-no tackling or wrestling.
• Being kind includes our language used outside. Please be sure it is school appropriate.
• Calling students by their first names only.

A very special thank you to those students in AVID at Bemis Junior High! Students were greeted with chalk drawings, inspiring messages, and a very warm welcome to complete their first FULL week! Thank you Bemis Junior High AVID members!

A message from our ISM Teacher:

A Browning Bear is RESPECTFUL! A Browning Bear is KIND!

Hello, Browning families! The last couple of weeks in ISM have been full of great friendship-building. We took a deep-dive in to what it means to be KIND. We focused on making new friends and learning about everyone we meet. We reminded ourselves that to MAKE a good friend, we have to BE a good friend. We explored how each of us are different, and how those differences make us more interesting to others; we discussed how each other's differences make for interesting and rewarding relationships.

This week, we kicked off our month of RESPECT. Your students started thinking of ideas to add to our "School Compact": an agreement of what we need from one another in order to have the school of our dreams. This week's goal of the compact was to focus on what we need from our classmates in order to feel respected. Each week, I give your student a CHALLENEGE. Ask them what their challenge is and if they have completed their mission yet. Last week, their challenge was to do an act of kindness for their homeroom teacher and for our wonderful lunchtime friend, Mrs. Cathy. This week, their challenge is to find ways to be an upstander (someone who stands up for others and focuses on doing what is right).

We are stronger together and TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE THE WORLD A BRIGHTER PLACE!

We are asking for your support to help keep our students safe. If you plan to volunteer in our classrooms, work directly with a student and/or chaperone a field trip, etc. you will need to have a volunteer background check on file. The new volunteer application form is located at this link: www.uticak12.org/volunteer. The background check involves multiple state and federal law enforcement databases. We greatly appreciate the involvement of our families and the difference you make at (school name). Thank you for your partnership with this extra step that will improve safety in our school.
