Crimson Newsletter - March 21, 2025
March 21, 2025
From Principal Becker
And so it begins...
The third trimester is off and running, spring activities have begun, there's been an overload of Crimson Pride following girls' and boys' State basketball, we're on the eve of spring break... and things are about to get real for the present and future of Maple Grove Senior High!
The first phase of construction is beginning on the largest expansion in the history of our school! Funding is occurring through the Build a Better Future initiative, whose bond referendum was passed by voters in November 2023. Our enrollment has over capacity for many years and with continued residential development within our attendance boundaries, this expansion is essential to create the additional teaching and learning spaces for students and staff. Moreover, provides a healthy investment in the safety, learning, technology and overall building needs.
We'll have construction updates through the projected completion date of September 2027. Yes, you read that right: our freshmen will be seniors before the expansion is completed, and all sophomores, juniors, and seniors have had their last days of a construction-free high school experience.
The first phase of construction, scheduled for completion by September 2025, includes the following:
- Two classrooms in the activities wing for PhyEd and Health,
- An expanded weightroom, funded in part by our Crimson Football Boosters to whom we are extremely thankful!
- Completely renovated boys' locker rooms,
- Additional bathrooms and toilet facilities,
- New storage facilities outside of the north gymnasium, and
- Excavation for the classroom and cafeteria expansion on the north side of the school.
Once the first phase is completed, the second phase (tentatively set for completion by September 2026) will include:
- Fully renovating for our girls' locker rooms,
- Substantially expanding our cafeteria with a new stairwell to the second floor locker commons,
- A dedicated activities entrance,
- A three-story classroom expansion including modernized facilities for Career/Tech Ed pathways,
- Additional bathrooms and toilet facilities, and
- A full renovation and expansion of our kitchen to vastly improve the flow of students during breakfast and lunches.
The third phase (with a tentative completion date of September 2027), will construct the following:
- An open and modernized media center,
- Total seating replacement in our auditorium with acoustic enhancements throughout,
- Additional music classrooms and facilities by repurposing existing Tech Ed spaces,
- A secure main entrance, and
- A new front office with spaces for attendance, receptionist, and our nurse's office.
It's a bit overwhelming just to list all of these pieces, but this is our future and it'll be great when it's done! For now, please view the full *draft* construction renderings (attached). They were presented at recent school board meetings and are available for public viewing.
As always, thank you for your support and partnership. Feel free to contact me with any questions at beckerb@district279.org.
Yours very respectfully,
Bart Becker, Principal
