Message from Our Principal
Hello Mountain View Family,
It will be fast paced at school as you can tell from all the information in "Happening Soon" below. The students are feeling the pressure as well, as we are in full testing mode in April through the beginning of May. All students will be taking the End of Year MAP and students in grades 3-5 will be taking STAAR.
I have two videos below that discuss the Texas wildflowers, which we are blessed to have access to in central Texas. One short video shows three places that you can take the family on a day trip to experience an overabundance of flowers. If you just want to drive around, you can play "name that flower" with your children using the second video. I just got back from a recruiting trip and saw that the Bluebonnets (State flower) and Indian Paintbrush are already easily seen on many highways. Many of our students have either just finished a unit on the environment or are in the middle of a unit. I hope this is a fun way to include your family in looking at the environment around them.
Stay safe and thank you for being part of our Mountain Lion Family!
Respectfully,
LaBecca Thompson
Safety Issues
- Parents we want to ask that you use the sidewalks and crosswalks when walking students to the front doors in the mornings. It is still dark during this time and it is difficult to see you and your children.
- Please make sure if you are parked for valet that you do not block driveways or double park on the road. The police make surprise visits and sometimes issue tickets.

Counselor's Corner
Pre-K - 2nd Grade
This month we have been learning about the character trait of Trustworthiness.
Being trustworthy is making personal choices that build trust, including honesty and integrity. It is essential to building positive relations with others. Our pre-k and kinder students enjoyed the book “Tell the Truth BB Wolf” by Judy Sierra; it illustrates that when we make a mistake like being dishonest, we can always make it right by taking responsibility and telling the truth even when it’s hard.
Our 1st and 2nd-grade students have learned this lesson through the story “The Emperor’s Seed”, it tells of a little boy who showed courage, persistence, and honesty in becoming the next emperor.
“Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself.” -William Shakespeare
3rd-5th Grade
Classroom Guidance for grades third-fifth is moving right along. The highlight for our fifth graders is all returned paperwork has been delivered to their middle school for next school year. Electives as well as the CORE education classes have all been selected and in the computer. Thank you fifth grade students and parents for returning the paperwork.
Our fourth grade students are learning about strategies to use if they are bullied as well as strategies to use if they are in the role of a bystander. The two strategies are called HA HA SO and CARES. Please ask your students to share what they are learning.
Out third graders have finished their self-regulation book about Tomas and his quest. They will now be learning three new self-regulation strategies which include a physical, emotional, and cognitive type.
Thank you parents for your support!

Kids Heart Challenge
Hello, Parents!
DESTINATION: Healthy Kids, Healthy Community!
Our Kids Heart Challenge quest is complete!
We would like to personally thank our school community for making a difference in so many lives. This year we dedicated our event to our beloved PE teacher, Coach Frechette 💜 Your support is appreciated immensely. Our school has created a team of lifesavers, and we couldn’t be prouder!!
Our Mountain View students and their families learned how to move more, be kind, help others, and learned the lifelong lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR and how to spot a stroke F.A.S.T. Great Job, Heart Heroes!
Here are the current results of our program that we can all be super proud of:
❥・We had 50 students join the Kids Heart Challenge this year!
❥・We’ve raised a REMARKABLE $3,124.29 (and growing) in funds to fight heart disease!
❥・We earned $300 in resources for your school’s PE program!
❥・We had 8 students learn about CPR and stroke warning signs by completing Finn’s Mission and 11 families learned Hands-Only CPR!
Won't You Be a Volunteer?
We love our volunteers at Mountain View!!! Volunteering does require a training meeting and a background check. We want to keep our students and you safe! These are easy as 1-2-3.
Some volunteers:
- Assist by doing things at home, or in their cars, such as counting out papers, cutting out laminated items, organizing.
- Go to the media center and make things such as posters or buttons, laminate, or punch out shapes using the di-cut.
- Assist in the classroom with the teachers or help with clubs.
- Work with small groups of students, helping learn letters or numbers or reading to a student.
- Like to be in the mix of things and help during events such as Kite and Bubble Day, Field Day, Picture Day, or go on field trips.
Do these sound like something you could do off and on during the school year? BE A VOLUNTEER!!!
Just click the Volunteers Needed picture to take you to the site to apply and then Mrs. Laurenson, our friendly Parent Liaison will contact you about the training. You can contact her at wendy.laurenson@killeenisd.org.
Upcoming Events we will need volunteers to assist:
April 3-6 Kite/Bubble Days (POC Coach Hunter)
May 9 Field Day (POC Coach Hunter)
