Washington Elementary School ๐พ
From the desk of Dr. Tiffany Jacobson
October 2, 2026
Weโre grateful for another great week of learning at Washington! Across all grades, students are building knowledge and academic skills while developing the habits of learning that help them become curious, thoughtful, persistent, and independent.
Students are immersed in books, from building foundational reading skills to reading critically and making meaning through context clues, personal experiences, and evidence. Thereโs nothing quite like watching a student get lost in a great book! In science, students are asking questions, conducting experiments, and making observations. In mathematics, they are developing number sense, applying mathematical thinking, and exploring number stories.
Learning extends through our special area programs, where students practice and persevere in instrumental music, develop harmony and collaboration in general music, build appreciation for Spanish, express themselves through art, and develop physical skills, teamwork, and healthy habits in Physical Education.
Special thanks goes out to the Fifth Grade Committee...students were buzzing about the pretzel ๐ฅจ sale all day!

Week of Respect
October 5 - 9, 2026
This week we will celebrate New Jerseyโs Week of Respect, a time dedicated to promoting kindness, inclusion, empathy, and positive relationships in our school community. Throughout the week, students will participate in activities and conversations that encourage us to be safe, kind, and responsible, and to recognize the important role each of us plays in making Washington a welcoming place for everyone.
Weโll also celebrate with some fun Spirit Days! Look for opportunities to show your school spirit while spreading kindness and respect throughout the week. We canโt wait to see our Wildcats participating, encouraging one another, and celebrating what makes our school community special!
Pedestrian Safety Assembly ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ฆ
On October 6, our second graders will participate in a Pedestrian Safety Assembly provided by our partners at EZ Ride. Students will learn important strategies for staying safe while walking, crossing streets, and navigating their community. We are grateful to EZ Ride for helping our students build the knowledge and habits they need to be safe, responsible pedestrians!

5th Grade Focus
This section of the newsletter will be used to communicate important information and reminders pertaining to fifth grade events.
Today, our fifth graders received their 5th grade T-shirts and proudly donned them for their annual fifth grade photo! Weโll wear them again next week as we represent Washington School during our class trip to Fairview Lake.
To help everyone have a safe, inclusive, and memorable experience, the fifth grade team of teachers and I will hold a class assembly on Wednesday, October 7, to review expectations for safety, responsibility, and inclusion.
