Mrs. Russell's Update
Winter Weather
Brrrrrr!!! Please make sure to send your students for cold weather. We will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill temperature is below 20 degrees so please make sure your students are dressed appropriately. Remember to put your child’s name on the inside of their coat in case it gets lost.
What are the cold weather guidelines for physical education & recess?
Time spent outdoors is an important part of the school day. However, there are times when it is not safe for students to be outside. Each school determines their decision based on the following conditions. Note: The decision may vary from grade to grade.
- Temperature
- Wind Chill
- Age of Students
- Length of time outdoors
- Adequacy of clothing of the children
- Condition of the playground
When properly clothed, elementary school-aged children can participate in safe, vigorous play in an outdoor environment in most weather conditions. Increased caution should be practiced when temperatures reach below 40 degrees including the wind chill factor. When temperatures and wind chill factors fall below 20 degrees including the wind chill, students are kept indoors.
Adams BARK Expectations
Please remind your kids of our Adams BARK Expectations
B- Be Responsible
A - Always Do Your Best
R - Respect Others, Property, and Self
K - Keep Safe
We use these expectations to create a safe learning environment so every student can achieve success. When your student displays these behaviors they can earn points to use at our School Store and they are entered into the weekly drawing for Bulldog Bags.
A special thank you to Viera’s Bakery for the coupons they donated for our bulldog bags!!
Looking for Adams Swag and gear?
Hello Adams families,
Many families have asked about Adams Elementary School gear like our T-Shirts, hoodies and other Adams items. We would like to share and invite our Adams families to the online store where we purchase Adams gear.
We continue to be a leader in the state for school culture and climate. One way students can take pride in their school and community is to wear school gear. One way to foster a sense of belonging, unity, and community within Adams Elementary is to wear school gear. When students take pride in their school, they are more likely to be engaged in academics, extracurricular activities, and events. School pride promotes positive relationships among students, teachers, and staff, creating a supportive environment for learning and personal growth.
Ultimately, school pride contributes to a vibrant and thriving educational experience for everyone involved.

Migrant Student Advocate (MSA)
My name is Ivonne Mendez, and I am the Migrant Student Advocate (MSA) at Adams Elementary on Monday-Wednesday.
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Business Administration from CESUES University in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, where I studied from 2002 to 2007.
In August 2012, I moved to Selah, Washington, marking my first time living in the United States. My initial work experience here involved a 5-month position at an apple warehouse, followed by five years at a money transfer agency (2013–2017).
In 2018, I joined the Yakima School District. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working at several schools, including Lewis & Clark, Franklin, Barge-Lincoln, Hoover, McClure, and Adams.
As a Migrant Student Advocate, my role focuses on providing vital non-instructional support to students and their families. My key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring attendance to ensure students remain engaged in their education.
- Communicating with parents through regular phone calls to address concerns and foster collaboration.
- Assisting with health screenings, including physical and vision assessments.
- Providing glasses to students in need.
- Connecting families with essential resources and services to support their well-being and success.
The Migrant Education Program is dedicated to helping migrant children graduate from high school. To achieve this goal, we focus on building a strong foundation in elementary school, recognizing its importance in shaping students’ academic futures. If you have a migrant student in need please let me know.
Sincerely,
Ivonne Mendez

Library Time!
Great news!!!!
First Graders have started checking out books from the Library!!! Yay! The books are staying at school until the students have had enough practice with the entire checkout process. Once they start to take home books, it's important to remind them to keep the books safe and ready to return to Library the following week.

Character Education is Our Shared Responsibility
Character education is a learning process that enables students and adults in a school community to understand, care about and act on core ethical values such as respect, justice, civic virtue and citizenship, and responsibility for self and others. Upon such core values, we form the attitudes and actions that are the hallmark of safe, healthy, and informed communities that serve as the foundation of our society.

Please don't drop off students before 8:15am!
Parents, it is very important to drop off your student at the appropriate time. Students should be dropped off AFTER 8:15am, Monday through Friday.
We have a lot of students that are dropped off really early. When students are dropped off before 8:15am there is no supervision. Also it has been below appropriate recesses temperature, so if students are being dropped off this early they will be COLD.
This is why it is important to drop off your students after 8:15am. Please make adjustments to your morning routine so your kids are not impacted by the weather.
Thank you!
