August Update
Welcome Back!
Welcome to a new school year! We are thrilled to have students back in the building very soon and can’t wait for the energy and excitement they bring each day. The FMS Family is getting ready to support, challenge, and cheer on every student as we kick off a great year together.
Please join me in welcoming several new staff members to FMS: Mr. Ghent (PE - joining us from FHS), Mrs. Jamie Klett (Special Education), Ms. Faith Thomas (8th Grade ELA), and Mrs. Jeannie Horras (5th Grade). Tyler Nunziato, FHS band director, will be serving our students in 5th grade band. We’re also fortunate to have some amazing long-term substitutes while members of our staff grow their families—Mrs. Wong (PE for Mr. Ghent), Ms. Bergren (PE and Life Skills for Mrs. Stever), and Mrs. Brown (Title for Mrs. Polk). We’re grateful for their support!
A huge thank you to Brandon Gaylord and our custodial team, who have worked tirelessly to prepare the building and make sure it’s ready for a great year of learning.
This year, we are focusing on continued growth in reading and math, building stronger connections among students and staff, and increasing clarity around what we teach and how we teach it. We’re excited for the learning and growth ahead.
Thank you for your continued partnership. It’s going to be a fantastic year!

FMS Open House - Thursday, August 21st
Fairfield Middle School will host Open House on Thursday, August 21 from 6:00-7:30 PM. Families are welcome to come at any time during the event.
6th - 8th grade students will receive a copy of their schedule and can use the time to find their classes and locker. If they'd like, they may also leave supplies in their locker.
5th grade students should check in upon arrival to receive a building checklist and then head to their homeroom teacher, who will help with locker information and other important details.
New to 5th grade? Principals Mrs. Marten and Mr. Rebling will give a short presentation and answer questions at 6:00 and again 7:15. Attendance isn't required, but we encourage first-time 5th grade families to stop by if they'd like a little extra guidance.
We can't wait to see you there!

Updated Dismissal Times at FMS
Due to changes in bussing this year, dismissal times will be slightly different:
- Walkers: 3:32 on normal days / 1:32 on 1:30 dismissal days
- Car Riders & Athletes: 3:36 on normal days / 1:36 on 1:30 dismissal days
As always, the north loop in front of the building is reserved for busses at dismissal. Parents picking up students should use the west doors by the loading dock. Please watch for students in the crosswalk, as walkers will already be leaving and many will be crossing the parking lot.
This year, six busses will load at 3:30 before heading to Pence. The next six busses will arrive from Pence around 3:34. We will monitor this new schedule and make adjustments as needed.
Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and efficient.
Cell Phones
Fairfield Middle School will follow the district’s updated technology policy this year. This won’t change much for us—however, students will now need to have phones and other personal technology (including smart watches) out of sight as soon as they walk into the building. In the past, students were able to have devices out until 8:00 AM, but this will no longer be the case. Students will then be allowed to have their devices out after the last bell of the day at 3:36.
Thank you for helping us maintain a focused and distraction-free learning environment!
First Day Arrival Procedures
On the first day of school and each day after, students arriving before 7:45 will need to wait outside. Doors open at 7:45, and staff will greet students at the west doors by the loading dock and at both north doors until 8:10 each morning.
After 8:10, students should enter through the north doors and check in at the office if they are going to be late to Trojan Time.
When students arrive, they will sit in assigned areas of the commons:
5th grade on the east side of the commons
6th grade on the north side of the commons by the windows
7th and 8th grade on the west side of the commons
Students will be dismissed to lockers at these times:
8:05 – 5th grade
8:07 – 6th grade
8:08 – 7th grade
8:09 – 8th grade
For the first couple of days, all students will stay in the commons until their dismissal time. Starting later in the first week, the gym and library will open at 8:05 for 6th–8th graders.
Please remember—all technology, including phones and smart watches, must be out of sight when students arrive. Students will not be allowed at lockers or in classrooms before their designated time to ensure staff can prepare for the day and supervision is maintained.
First Two Days Schedule
Please review the schedule for the first two days of school HERE as we will be dismissing at 1:30 and using a modified schedule for our welcome back assemblies.
