WELCOME TO TERM THREE!
It has been wonderful reconnecting with students and families as we begin the new school term together. I thank our staff for their hard work and dedication, ensuring a smooth start to Term Three. We welcome Celeice McDonnell (Year 3B Teacher) back from leave this term. We also welcome Taylor Liebregts, a Pre-Service Teacher from Notre Dame University, to our school community. Taylor will be completing her final practicum placement with Krystle Neal in 3W.
I remind parents that we have two Pupil Free Days this term – Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August. Please note that our Confirmation Workshop for students participating in this Sacrament will take place at 4:30pm on Tuesday 25 August, as originally planned.
COMMUNICATION
As the new semester begins, I take this opportunity to remind our parents and caregivers that our fortnightly school newsletter remains our primary source of communication regarding school matters. Please ensure that you keep abreast of current information by reading the newsletter, shared via Seesaw every two weeks. Seesaw is also used for reminders or notifications needing to be made between newsletter weeks. In line with our whole school communication approach, Seqta is used for sending emails or text messages regarding urgent or important matters.
FACTION TOKENS
We have now commenced distributing Faction Tokens to students who display positive behaviours in line with our school values and whole-school rules.
This is part of our positive reward system across the school, complementing our raffle ticket system that puts students in the draw for our termly Lunch With Leadership.
SPIRIT OF THE ARTS PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
I had the pleasure of attending the Opening Mass for the Spirit of the Arts Performing Arts Festival on Thursday 23 July, along with Dee Campbell (Assistant Principal), Alison Yeo (Choir Conductor), Yna and Mechaela (Choir Captains).
We will have students participate in Bible Reading and choir performances this year and I wish these students the very best.
CPSA CROSS COUNTRY
I congratulate our Year 3-6 students involved in the CPSA Cross Country on Tuesday 28 July.
Thank you to Sam Harris (Physical Education Teacher) for his organisation of this event and continued encouragement of our students to achieve their personal best.
P&F DISCOS
Our P&F Committee are preparing for disco night, taking place on Friday 7 August – 4:30-5:30pm for Kindy – Year Two and 6:15-7:45pm for Years Three-Six.
The theme of the night is neon, with tickets available for $10 per student.
Parents of Kindy – Year Two students are required to attend the disco and parent attendance for the Year Three-Six is encouraged.
I thank our community for their support of these events and extend a big thank you to our P&F Committee for their origination and planning.
SCHOOL MASSES - ST MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP & ASSUMPTION MASS
We look forward to gathering as a Catholic community on Friday 7 and Friday 14 August. We celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop on Friday 7 August, with the Feast day occurring on Saturday 8 August.
This is a significant celebration for us, with St Mary MacKillop not only being Australia’s first Saint, but also the namesake of one of our factions.
We will then gather on Friday 14 August to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, which takes place on Saturday 14 August. The Feast of the Assumption honours Mary’s bodily entry into heaven, commemorating our belief that at the end of her life, the mother of Jesus was taken up into heaven body and soul.
Both of these Masses will take place in the MacKillop Hall, commencing at 9:00am. I hope to see you there.
PRE-KINDY 2027 AND KINDERGARTEN 2028
We are now accepting enrolment applications for Pre-Kindy 2027 (Three-Year-Old Kindy) and Kindergarten 2028. Interviews for families seeking a place in Pre-Kindy next year, and Kindergarten the following year are currently taking place.
In accordance with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) policy, enrolment in Pre-Kindy does not automatically guarantee a place in Kindergarten. Families who wish their child to continue into Kindergarten and beyond from 2028 are therefore required to submit both the Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten–Year Six enrolment applications.
Families will find our updated enrolment application forms on our school website. Please direct any enrolment enquiries to enrolments@stbrigidsms.wa.edu.au, or contact Mrs Victoria Kellaway (Administration Officer, Monday – Wednesday).
KINDERGARTEN 2027
As advised previously, the last date for submitting an Enrolement Application for Kindergarten 2027 was Monday 20 July. We are now in the process of finalising Letters of Offer for families.
Applications received from Monday 20 July will be placed on our waitlist.
BOOK WEEK
It’s that time of the year again! Book Week takes place across Australia 22 – 28 August.
We look forward to celebrating at St Brigid’s with our Book Week on Wednesday 26 August. This will begin at 9:00am Wednesday 26 August as we gather around our Central Green (weather permitting).
Students and staff are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character or reflecting this year’s theme Symphony of Stories.
LEARNING JOURNEY
We look forward to our Learning Journey, taking place Wednesday 16 September 2:00 – 4:00pm.
This provides a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their learning from the term with parents and caregivers.
Parents are welcome to sign their child/ren out of school early, if concluding their Learning Journey experience prior to 3:00pm.
Assistant Principal - Dee Campbell
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Families of Year 6 students are reminded to register with St Brigid’s Parish (Midland) for these students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this term.
Students NOT registered with the Parish will not receive this sacrament. Please follow the link if you have not registered your child to receive this sacrament.
RAD REWARDS – FACTION TOKENS
Our Faction Tokens have finally arrived and are being given out to the children with their raffle tickets. Every time a child receives a raffle ticket, they will now also collect a faction token for their team! The faction with the most tokens at the end of Term 3 will have 15 minutes extra play AND an icy pole at lunch on ONE day in Week 10. Faction Token Tallies will be completed prior to assemblies (starting Week 4) and the community will be informed of the progress of each faction at the assemblies.
Congratulations to our Lunch With Leadership (LWL) Winners from Term 2. An enjoyable pizza lunch + icy pole was enjoyed by all on the last day of Term 2. Children are encouraged to keep collecting raffle tickets this term for another chance at LWL!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ASSESSMENT (REA)

Interschool Cross Country Carnival (Year 3 - 6)
On Tuesday 28th July, selected Year 3 to 6 students competed at the CPSSA Cross Country Carnival. These students were selected after the performances in the Faction Cross Country in Term 2. We were blessed with some beautiful weather on the day, and our students competed to the best of their abilities whilst displaying outstanding sportsmanship and all of our school values throughout the competition.
Each year group was split into an A & B division race with the distances varying depending on the year group and consisted of 48 students across 16 Catholic schools. Our students knew that the competition would be fierce and after training twice a week for several weeks, each student set themselves an achievable goal that they would work towards for the carnival. Mr Sam Harris is immensely proud of all our students who competed, not just at their times and place in their event, but also with their determination to complete the events and to get the best out of their ability.
There were several students who achieved a Top 20 finish in their divisions and should be proud of what they were able to achieve this year.
Congratulations to the students below who finished in the Top 10 in their events! An outstanding result after a great deal of hard work and dedication:
2nd in the Year 6 A Division Boys – Charlie Schneider
9th in the Year 4 Boys A Division – Dyson Fitzgerald
As a school, we improved on our overall points and place from the previous year, which was one of the goals we set ourselves as a team. Well done to all members of our team on this achievement!
We extend our appreciation to Mr Sam Harris, Miss Lauren Tarquinio, Mrs Cheryl Harris and Mrs Deb Mitchell who assisted the team on the day and lead our team with professionalism and care. We also thank our parent volunteers and supporters who assisted in cheering on our students from start to finish. Thank you to all the families who ensured their children were prepared for the event and supported the training program that was put in place.
We will continue to build on this result for next year’s competition and remember that running is a sport that only requires minimal equipment, a space to run and a positive mindset. The rest is up to you!
Waste Free Wednesday
At St Brigid’s, we are excited to begin our Waste Free Wednesdays as part of our commitment to caring for the environment and “loving our Earth.”
Each Wednesday, we encourage all students and staff to bring a waste-free lunchbox and avoid any plastic wrapping. Together, we can make a big difference… one small change at a time!
✅ Ideas for a waste-free lunch:
• Pack snacks and lunches in reusable containers
🚫 What to avoid:
• Plastic bags, cling wrap, or foil
• Disposable bottles and juice boxes
• Snacks packaged in plastic
Let’s work together to reduce waste and build sustainable habits for our children.
♻️ Saving the planet one Wednesday at a time!
Thank you for your support!
